A lovely book! The interiors shown are wonderful. Real rooms lived in by real people. I am so weary of decorating and interior design books with perfect interiors and lighting. The photographs tie in nicely with the literary quotes. I found myself running to my bookshelves to look up the quotes and dip into the books referenced by the author. Whatever your style you will find something to delight you. Best of all, nary a flat screen TV hung over a fireplace, or anywhere else for that matter.
LBG's book feels like an organic extension of her addictive blog. Warm and conspiratorial, like leaning over the remains of a good meal, drinking the last of the wine with an old friend. Only this friend is a frightening well-read, cheeky artist with a roster of quietly A-list creative compatriots. There's an inclusive vibe in these pages that inspires and invites. The visuals are rich in detail and the homes seem carefully selected not for their instagram-ready breath-catching effect, but as studied support for the concepts discussed. One of my favorite things about her blog is her visual sense and her free-spirited mix of pinterest pix, old oil paintings, moody photography that she uses so well to express her ideas. I was expecting that assemblage approach. But returning to the pages, I see that her choices were wise, and when you have Ivan T at your elbow ready to bring your vision to life, you probably dont want to waste it.Overall, being a total book-nerd design-freak LBG fan, this was manna from heaven. And my my literary reading list has gotten waaaaaay longer.Thank you Lisa! Bask in your achievement, relax and refill your creative tank, and we look forward to your next interesting adventure.
I just got my book today in the mail and had to sit in the coziest place in my home to read it. I have always been a huge fan of Lisa Borgnes Giramonti's blog A Bloomsbury Life and this book went way beyond. I am so inspired by how she mixed the decorating basics with Literary classics from authors like Jane Austin, Henry James, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Edith Wharton. There were so many unique tips from layering patterns, using restraint, creating drama with dark and light to how to rock a bohemian room. That doesn't even touch it. Every chapter has so many pearls of wisdom. This is definitely not just another pretty decorating book this is the decorating playbook.
This book is gorgeous. The approach is rich and detailed and full of splendid literary wonder. The rooms are not eccentric, and the actual dwellings of authors are not featured; instead, beautifully portrayed homes are keyed to the texts they evoke. I've spent hours enjoying it. I will say that the section on glamorous houses/rooms was probably not as glamorous as many would hope. I loved it, so I know it must be a tad on the ordinary side. And, of course, this is all based on Giramonti's personal associations—sometimes, I can't quite make the connections she does between quotes from novels and the illustrated rooms. But that is a small complaint. I appreciate this book very much, and it has already been a welcome snowy-day indulgence.
I love a good coffee table book (even better with a great cup of coffee). And a book that combines interior design with literature—well, that is truly irresistible. Novel Interiors by Lisa Borgnes Giramonti is, for me anyway, the perfect balance of photography and text. The book—subtitled “Living in Enchanted Rooms Inspired by Literatureâ€â€”is divided into six sections, each with a different literary focus, from the world of Dickens and Austen to Proust and Colette (and everything in between). Each section includes design and entertaining ideas to help capture the featured literary environment in your own home (example, naming your house, which I have always wanted to do, but have either moved to frequently or just not had the courage!). Novel Interiors concludes with a helpful list of all the authors and books that provided most of the research sources for Borgnes Giramonti. Quite honestly there were many that I haven’t read (yet!) despite all my travels through literature, so I have added a quite a few to my “to read†list. I certainly recommend this book to all of my fellow lit geeks, those especially who have a penchant for décor and design. #booklovesunday
One of the most unique and beautiful books ever! Gorgeous photos with just a sprinkling of description for each, connecting their particular atmospheres to a descriptive phrase from a classic novel, and a painterly paragraph to further explore the style. NOT a how-to, which I am never interested in, but rather page after page of inspiration. Just right.
This is a very delightful book, and a light read. The author has taken photos of interiors and has matched them to classic literature. It is interesting to see these classic tales exemplified in photos. Not your typical design book. I recommend this book to anyone who has a fondness for lit, and interior design.
I loved everything about this wonderful book from the very talented writer, Lisa Borgnes Giramonti. Her blog is one of my favorites. She has such a unique point of view, and I love her taste on everything. A must have for the literature buff slash design junky!
