If you're trying to gain that extra 10 points on your shelf for peds, this is the book. I like this b/c compared to case files that gets rambly and takes forever to read, Pre test is bullet points and quick questions and explanations are 1 sentence and very high yield. I did well on this shelf and it was my first rotation b/c using this 1 week before the exam after going through the rotation and having been exposed to everything, this book is great for solidifying that knowledge. Highly recommend this for anyone wanting to get that extra few points on this shelf.However, if you're not interested in peds and don't have a stronger basic background- this may be overwhleming with small random facts to you. Only use this towards the end of your shelf studying.

Kindle version makes this much more usable, almost like a standalone question bank (ie Uworld), since you can flip back and forth between question and answer by just clicking hyperlinks instead of flipping back and forth with a physical book. Price wasn't bad for kindle rental either. The only downside is that when you click the number to see the corresponding answer, sometimes you'll see part of the answer to the next question if you have wandering eyes. Not a huge problem, just kind of annoying.

Did well on the board (end up with an "A" with my school's score conversion), and there's a lot of good information in this book, but a good portion of the questions are sort of beyond the scope of what you really need to know unless you're planning a career in Ped's. Overall, I'd recommend this product as a review/study resource for the board and any in-house quizzes or exams, but it's not a "must have."

worked great for me. the explanations for the questions were, i felt adequate; and if not they're always sourced so you can look things up yourself if you wanna learn more. i think what i liked the most was that this book doesn't exhaust any particular topic, so much as try to touch all the bases--so it's good to "test the waters" and see if you need to brush up on any specific field. for example, in the endo section there are only a few questions on PTH, vit D, alk phos and the like, but by going thru them you'll know if you get the general idea or need to do some more studying. in all a good companion to an intermediate level textbook that will fill in the spaces not covered by the questions in this text

I used this during my peds rotation and found it helpful when used for the purpose intended for. I do not recommend as a primary resource for a peds rotation or as a review book. As a question book, it did a very good job with explanations and pointing out high yield topics and differences between similar appearing diseases. Would definitely rate as superior to the questions on USMLEworld Q banks as far as being similar in content and style to the NBME.

Uworld plus this case file. Got a high B on the peds shelf with only going through book once.

I used this book as a supplement to UWorld for my pediatrics shelf, and it was fantastic! It does a great job of giving cases for your standard bread and butter diagnoses as well as throwing in some zebras that might show up on our shelves. The questions are very easy to get through. I went through this book in less than a week. A handful of the things had outdated guidelines (as of Dec 2018). Hopefully a new update will come soon.

I've been using the Pre-Test series for all the rotations I have done so far (surgery and neurology), and like the other books in the series, PreTest for Pediatrics provides a good overview of which topics to know about for the shelf exam. I also personally like using the question-answer format for reviewing material because the information sticks better than from just reading a paragraph in Blueprints or First Aid. However, I've noticed that some of the answer sections at the back are lacking in a discussion of why a certain answer is better than the other, and I had to look up the information elsewhere. Also, the question format is not as similar to the USMLE questions as I'd like (they use many more buzz words in PreTest, and the question stems are not as long as the ones on shelf exams). They also have a few questions on very low-yield material.In summary, this book is very useful when used in conjunction with a more in-depth, text-book type book and is nice to carry around with you on wards to study when you have a short period of free time, but not great if you are trying to thoroughly learn the material.

Great insights and suggestions. I liked the examples and clear explanations. I also like that much of what he suggests is based on studies and experience. Either one by itself isnâ€™t the best foundation for giving professional advice. The examples and suggestions are very common sense but I found quite a few new gems that I can use and solidified some already established beliefs but with much better explanations than the ones I could come up with. I guess thatâ€™s why this gentleman has a book and I donâ€™t. I am anxious to read some of his other books.

I almost didn't buy this book because I thought the title was simplistic. Another book that gives us ## steps to accomplish xyz. However, I am glad I purchased the book as Todd Whitaker focuses his attention on what matters most, people! He is clear and to the point about what matters most in leading school. He provides practical ideas that make so much sense. He does not waste time philosophizing about things we cannot control. He spends time looking at practices that are within our reach and within our sphere of influence. I highly recommend this book.

This is an inspiring read that I would recommend not just to any principal, but to any educator. The content is well-organized and fantastically written. I enjoyed it from start to finish!

One of the best books I have read in my ed leadership classes. Practical, hands-on information that everyone can use. My principal is currently reading it and has shared how he is applying it even while he's in the middle of reading it.

This is a great read for school administrators. Whitaker is a leader on how to effectively run schools. His ideas are practical and you can implement them when you go into the office tomorrow!

This was a well written book with many relevant stories that will help every principal be great. Such good examples of what great principals do differently. A must read for any principal before they start and once they have begun practicing.

I appreciate how Mr. Whitaker writes in such a simple tone. While some topics drone on (you can make your point in 3 sentences), I think he wanted to add lots of examples. Point taken.Still, he gives some great advice and I believe my own leadership skills have improved.

This was a great read. As an assistant principal now taking on my first school as the head principal this book is a great resource to remind you about the things that matter. I think this book is great because it focuses on important leadership qualities while making it very relevant for the school leader.

These Dover score editions are best known for their low prices. For the Beethoven symphonies, these are pretty much just reproductions of the 1865 Litolff edition, which contains numerous mistakes that were corrected in later, better editions. The 9x12 format is good for the full score format, making it easy to view all the orchestral parts at the same time. The note heads are big enough to be clearly legible.Knowing the deficiency of the source edition, my major complaint is there are no measure numbers so it's a big inconvenience for anyone wishing to study specific points in the score.BTW, all these are available for free download as PDF on [...]. But for me, having these in a book format beats having to print out page after page of PDF which gets messy.

It's really convenient that symphony #5-7 are together. I love the lay-flat binding... BUT!!!! There aren't ANY measure numbers. Who does that? I knocked off one star because I have spent a couple hours now numbering all my measures. Huge waster of time! Otherwise, the print is easy to read.

The Dover company printed a genuine manuscript from the original score of the 19th Century.

I know that the mistakes have been talked about, but as a student when you're buying so many other books and things it is nice to have an affordable option for scores like this. You can sort of think of it as "you get what you pay for" if you really are discouraged by the mistakes, but it is simple enough to make the corrections and you get to study this wonderful repertoire for a cheap price.

I like the sewn binding and the scores are fun to read.

An excellent edition of the music, cheap, large, and relatively well laid out for study. I wish it were spiral bound, though even without it lays relatively flat. I would definitely recommend this edition for someone on a budget.

As a child, I discovered the beauty of Michigan through walks in the forests, playing in the wooded areas around my home, stopping to explore the bits of color along the road and in the fields. I joined a Michigan Wildflowers 4-H Club. I learned some names of the flowers, but more importantly I learned to appreciate the unique beauty of the very small intricate violets, as well as the large bold lilies. Through college, raising children, career moves, whenever I found the need to escape from the craziness of the world, I would head to the woods to walk and explore. Walking amongst the trees, observing the flowers, the butterflies, listening to the stillness, or the sounds of birds brings me a peacefulness that I have not been able to find elsewhere. About twenty years ago I decided that it would be nice to capture some of these images; so I purchased a new Nikon. Trial and error led to many rolls of film being printed. Visiting my father one day, he said, â€œWhy donâ€™t you do something with all those pictures you are taking. Here is a photography show you can enter.â€ I did. I was called a couple days later and was told that this show was not for professionals, only amateurs were allowed to compete. Since this was the first time I had ever shown any of my photos, I told them that I considered myself an amateur! This was the validation I needed; that just maybe, I could capture a bit of the beauty I had so enjoyed throughout my life to share with others. For the next few years I was out in the woods every chance I had. Iâ€™d throw a cooler in the back of the car, fill my pockets with film, and away I would go. It would take me all day to travel ten miles as I constantly stopped to explore a flower that caught my eye, and then a little farther down the path there would be a different flower, and then, thereâ€™s another one over under that tree. I soon began to do photo shows at locations such as the Kalamazoo Nature Center, Hartwick Pines Visitors Center, and Whiting Forest. I received comments such as: I never noticed that flower before. How could I have missed seeing this? Thatâ€™s what that little purple flower in my yard really looks like. I began to think about how I could share these photos with a larger audience and this series of books, Michigan Wildflowers: Up Close and Personal, came to be.

The other reason these guides are so worthy of praise is the fact that each volume has a neat, tidy, and nicely detailed foldout map to the particular area under discussion. The chapters in each volume correspond to the geographical areas into which the authors divide the city for the tourist. Each chapter gives basics on places to see, available art, and entertainment venues, places to eat and drink, where to shop, and where to stay. You can study a range of guides before your actual trip, but this is definitely a commendable candidate for carrying with you on site. Why not, I thought, buy five different guidebooks (from five different publishers) and compare them to find my favorite. So that's what I did. I bought one brand for each stop and then, on my way out, I saw a little Paris guide I'd never seen (or heard of) before. So I picked that up too. (I go to Paris at least once a year so I can never have enough Paris guidebooks.) Here's what I found... and it surprised me: My favorite book of all -- for both pre-trip planning and on-the-ground support -- is The Little Black Book of Paris. The other guides I bought are all divided into sections this way: Where to Stay, Where to Eat, What to Do. But The Little Black Book of Paris is divided by area. And each area has its own fold-out map (which, to be honest, blows the Frommer's maps out of the water). While the guide doesn't have an entire history or culture section like most of the others do -- Lonely Planet, TimeOut, Fodor's, etc -- it's well written and there's an overview of each area at the beginning of each section. I liked the guide so much I went back to the bookstore to buy more. Unfortunately, they don't have guides for my other destinations as they're a fairly new series. They do, however, have one for Washington D.C., where I live, so I bought that. After reading both guides -- Paris and D.C. -- cover to cover, I got so excited about these guidebooks I called the publisher to see what other books they have in the works. Turns out, Paris, D.C., New York, and Rome are the only guides on shelves to date. But San Francisco and London are due out later this year (July and September respectively). And they hope to publish four a year from now on, with Boston and Disney World on their 2008 list. These books are a real find, and I'm glad I stumbled on them. This book was a waste of money and time. The maps are way too small to be useful and the information is out of date.A better choice would be to buy the laminated maps available (by Streetwise) and read one of the many publications that is actually updated. Las Vegas changes too often to rely on a book that is two years old.

It's a nice little book with great maps, but i wish there were more information. They could have used charts instead of paragraphs to pack more concise information in the same size book.

I hope to write a follow up as I have only begun to read this delightful ramble through an English apple orchard. Anybody who has seen any of Stephen Hayesâ€™ YouTube videos on apple orcharding will want to read this semi-autobiographical treatment of raising apples and other tree fruits.Update November 2, 2017: I bumped this review up to 5 stars. Itâ€™s self published so it has a good number of typos. What do you expect? Hopefully Dr. Hayes will revise quickly. The book is still worth five stars. Stephen Hayes has a natural ease in writing that makes the reading seem like a stroll through his orchard with a personal one-on-one tour. I donâ€™t agree with all of Hayesâ€™ orchard practices but I was engrossed with his telling of it.

If you have watched the author's videos, you will understand the writing style. He's not a professional author, rather, he writes as if he is sitting across the table, talking to a friend. This is a mash of the technical information on how to run an orchard mixed together with not a minor but not a major amount of biography of his family and his orchard.It won't be a gold standard of orcharding reference book as it contains too many personal stories. Nor will it be an outstanding book of short stories.as it contains a lot of technical information. If, however, you are thinking about starting an orchard or living in one this is a great book to get you headed in the right direction. If you like reading "how life is" type stories, it will be a good fit. If you like his YouTube vlogging style, you will like the book.

Author gives first hand account of managing a several 100 tree orchard, relaying both successes and failures he has experienced after 25+ years of experience.Author provides detailed descriptions of what Apple's have worked for him and why, while also establishing weaknesses a variety may have.I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to start a fruit tree planting of their own regardless of size, it will prove to be an invaluable reference of experiences from someone who has already walked the walk.

Loved the style Stephen chose to write this. Very informative and easy to read. I especially liked the fact that he put his personal 30+ years experience out there and gave the information as he sees it opposed to stating the generalities on the subjects.Highly recommend!

Mr. Hayes manages to weave both anecdotal and technical details of orchard keeping in a delightful way that is certain to please any orchardist, whether they keep 1 or 1000 trees. He explores traditional and modern methods, small scale and large scale. He encourages his readers by sharing many of the trials and tribulations he and his wife and family have experienced. This book will be cherished and reread by myself for a very long time.

Stephen Hayes has become a friend because I have watched his YouTube videos so many times I could quote him. I bought the book as a way of thanking him for his years of service in recording and posting his orchard videos. I am also truly enjoying reading his book. Itâ€™s written in the casual free flowing style that Steve users in his videos.

Very personal story of starting an apple orchard, the good parts and the bad parts. Very nicely written. The author is a Doctor and very good with a grafting knife, his Youtube videos on grafting are very good. Wish it had more on making cider, maybe the second edition :)

I enjoyed and learned from Steveâ€™s book. I am also a proud owner of a heirloom apple orchard of 300 trees and honeybee Apiary of 23 hives. I could relate with Steveâ€™s experience. It is good to hear about the orchard business from a realistic perspective. Despite all the headaches of operating an orchard it is a noble way to spend your time.

This was an amazing book. I read it over the period of about three weeks, and wouldnâ€™t be surprised if I began reading it again sometime. In the meantime though, I have about 13 other Beth Moore books that Iâ€™m excited about. ;)Iâ€™ve heard the name â€˜Beth Mooreâ€™ over the years, but was never really sure who she was. Then I saw on someoneâ€™s blog that she had 14 of her books for free (for a limited time) on Kindle. Thinking it was a great opportunity, I downloaded all of them. I figured if I didnâ€™t like the books, or if I disagreed with what she said, I could easily delete them and that would be the end of it. Then I dove into To Live Is Christ.For the past year Iâ€™ve been listening to the New Testament on my phone over and over again. Iâ€™m not sure how many times Iâ€™ve listened to it in the past 12 months, but I do know at one time I listened to it in only two weeks. Therefore, Iâ€™ve gotten really immersed in Paul the Apostleâ€™s life.In To Live Is Christ, Mrs. Moore really delves deep into Paulâ€™s life. It was a wonder-filled journey getting to see what life was like during the time a lot of the New Testament was written. Often times she begins a sentence like â€œLetâ€™s imagineâ€ or â€œLetâ€™s supposeâ€. I enjoyed that a lot. It wasnâ€™t as if she was trying to tell us â€˜this is how it had to beâ€™, but it was more like â€˜canâ€™t you imagine this might have been the way it was?â€™. All in all, it really helped bring the Bible to life for me and give me more practical ways of living it out.Iâ€™m not saying I agree with everything she said, but when do you ever find someone you agree with 100%? This book was great and I would totally recommend it! Having the world of the New Testament come more alive was a fun, interesting, helpful and encouraging journey!

This book basically covers the life of Paul and includes some very interesting facts. However, it also contains many more errors, especially with punctuation, than Iâ€™ve noticed in a Beth Moore book before. She belabored some points, repeats, and over-describes, making the book very wordy. Thereâ€™re also too many attempts to be cute that draws attention away from the message and to the author. Some of this seemed almost flippant. As typical of Beth Moore, however, it has a lot of meat and the potential to draw one closer to God. I do think the book would have been better if it had stuck with Acts and not have tried to include a few random chapters from Paulâ€™s epistles.

In her typical writing style, Beth Moore has breathed humanity into such a central character to the Christian faith. The effect is mesmerizing, heartening, and even hilarious! The lessons Paul learned, that either are overt, right there in Scripture, or implied based on the chronological study of some books of Acts, Romans, and some of his letters serve as a narrative to faith, and hope, and endurance. I loved, loved, loved this book.

A well researched and well written expository on the life and ministry of the apostle Paul. We not only see Paul as the apostle, but Paul as a person just like all of us with strengths, weaknesses, fears and even a past. Beth Moore does an excellent job at relating every aspect of Paul's life - ministry included - to the reader to show that we can leave or mark on this earth just as Paul did if we put our wholehearted faith and trust in God and rely on Him totally. This is a book you don't only read once, but you read it from time to time. It's a book you don't keep to yourself, but it's something that you can share with others in the faith. It's written not only from a biblical perspective, but also from a historical one, allowing the reader to better understand the New Testament and the context in which the letters and epistles were written.

I never paid much attention to Paulâ€™s letters to the different churches. This book helps to bring Paulâ€™s ministry to light. It shows how our lives as Christians are illuminated by what Paul taught and endured and relates to our everyday lives in following Christ. I used this as a morning devotional, it gave me good insight to Paulâ€™s teachings through his letters and life and how faith in Jesus really is the more excellent way.

This is the third study that I have done by Beth Moore now, and they have all been great! Honestly, the first few weeks, I was thinking that this one was not my favorite, but, being over half-way now I am really enjoying it. It is a very in-depth study on the life of Paul - from his beginnings to the end. There is a lot of history of the Jewish culture as well as about the early church - as it all relates to Paul and his ministry. Beth has a way of pulling things out of the scriptures that I wouldn't have thought of on my own, shedding a whole new light on passages. I also enjoy in this study how at the end of each study day she has a 'How does God want you to respond to what He showed you today.' question in the column - making me think more about how I can apply what we just went over! I would recommend this study - as well her others!!

I chose this book because I have done several of Beth Moore studies and love her deep and concise style. Also I am partial to Paul because he brought the gospel to the Gentiles. When you finish a Beth Moore study you will be richly rewarded because she makes you dig deep and that tends to help the information stay with you. One word of caution though this is not the workbook but a textbook of Paul's life. It is a companion work to the workbook.

I love the way God reveals Himself through Beth. I learned so much thru this study. I am bolder in my walk with Christ. Beth teaches as few others can, she teaches with a heart full of love for Christ and the reader. You will not find condemnation in this book, or any of Beth's book, you will only find true love of Christ, the heart of a believer, and a deep desire for others to know the love of Christ. Please get this book, your life will forever be changed for the good.

As a trauma survivor, and someone in recovery from DID, this book is proving to be so powerful for me. I have read very widely on trauma and have learned a little bit from many authors; but this book goes so much further because Fisher brings together understandings from neuroscience; together with learnings of Internal Family Systems Therapy, the Structural Dissociation model and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, in a way that it's all so applicable to my daily life. Written in a very easy to read style, Fisher walks her talk making sure it's as accessible to trauma survivors as therapists, ensuring that any technical concepts are explained in easy to understand language. It's written with such compassion that Fisher's compassion can't help but rub off on us as we read!This book makes sense of so much that never made sense to me before. I can at long last understand why the parts only hear "the bad stuff"; why the messages I've been trying to get through to them about how safe we are now have been falling on deaf ears. I understand why I ended up so destabilised each time I went into therapy in the past - despite well-meaning therapists, I can see that they simply lacked the understanding of what was going on in my brain and how to work with me without destabilising me. I finally get why it's not about what happened to me so much as about what is continuing to go on inside of me. The book is an absolute wealth of information, and I'm going to have to read it over and over to take it all in - there are so many explanations for things that I thought weren't explainable!I'm living proof that the model that Fisher teaches really works. After giving up on going into therapy again, after too many attempts that just resulted in day to day life becoming unmanageable while in therapy, Fisher's teachings inspired me to have another go. I found a therapist trained in IFS and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and even though it's very early days I'm already starting to work with my parts in a way I've never been able to before. I feel better and more settled at the end of a therapy hour than the beginning, and I'm already better able to manage triggering. This model really works!My wish is that every single trauma survivor looking for answers, and every single therapist, be able to read this gem of a book. I salute and truly appreciate Janina Fisher for her curiosity and desire to find ways to make therapy work for us severely traumatised folk, and for making her learnings and skills so accessible to so many via this book.

Next to my Bible, this book is the most fantastic resource I have come across for understanding life pain and human dysfunction. Ms. Fisher does not write from a religious perspective. She is a highly trained and experienced clinician with extensive professional experience in deeply understanding and working with individuals who have suffered from and have been debilitated by traumatic life events, whether in childhood or as an adult. (Most of us have experienced, or will experience, trauma in life ... or we know those who have). Ms. Fisher is the quintessence of enlightened compassion towards those who have experienced trauma. She "gets" what you have experienced, how it has impacted you, and how you react to the damage in ways you don't even understand. She provides a very hopeful, tangible roadmap for overcoming internal self-alienation and the mystifying self-defeating behavioral dysfunction that occasions the trauma survivor, and she provides an informed and believable and actionable conceptual and theoretical framework for how to return to one's resilient, normal self and re-enter one's productive life with much greater compassion for self and others. In my opinion, every human being on the planet would greatly benefit from reading and understanding the concepts Ms. Fisher brilliantly lays out for us in this excellent book. I give it my highest recommendation.

This book is simply brilliant. It provides the reader with an understanding of what structural dissociation looks, sounds, and feels like, as well as a method for healing it that works. Janina Fisher, as a writer, does what she does so well as a clinician and instructor. She gets through to both mind and body in a "felt sense" manner. After reading this book, you will have a "felt sense" understanding, not just an understanding of theory, and it will stick with you and enable you to apply it in practice. As a clinician, I have read many very helpful books about developmental trauma, but this book is exceptional.

I am so impressed by this book and would reccomend it to all clinicians working with adults impacted by childhood trauma not just dissociation as most may view it clinically. It has changed and deepened my clinical work and I have seen incredible shifts in clients self compassion and ability to meet unmet needs from various ages and heal from traumas. I love the attachment lens and whole body mind integration in this book. As a clinician who has experienced childhood trauma I also can say that I feel passionate about it's benefit due to healing further and strengthening awareness and relationships in my own journey. This can be used for a knowledge base in couples work as well. I can't wait for more books or trainings like this one.

As a psychiatrist/psychoanalyst and a trauma survivor, I have treated traumatized patients, been a traumatized patient, and read widely in the field. I think Janina Fisher brilliantly synthesizes the latest findings in trauma research and neurobiology and lays out a strategy for psychotherapy that takes into account all we know of trauma and abuse. The stories of her patients make the theory and practice come to life. She does not shy away from the difficult topics in this field like extremely self-destructive patients, and severe attachment trauma and how it disrupts the therapeutic relationship. She has a deep and compassionate understanding of trauma survivors. It should be required reading for all trauma therapists and trauma survivors.
