I read this book for a two-part parent book discussion at my son's school. Growth mindset and fixed mindset were terms I was only vaguely familiar with before reading this book. Afterwards I was intimately aware of their meaning. In that sense this book was a terrific overview of these concepts for parents.I took the quiz at the beginning of the book and was not too surprised to discover that I have a rather fixed mindset about learning and ability. I was praised for being smart my whole life, and I strongly believe that my ability is based on something innate within me. And I feel the same about my son. This book did point out that emphasizing intelligence over hard work can make it difficult for children when they're faced with new experiences requiring skills that they don't already possess. I know I have always shied away from things that I don't do well.Coupled with the book discussion with our school's vice principal, I learned a lot about how to speak to my son about perseverance and persistence. I have found myself trying to encourage him to try again or put forth some additional effort in the things he's been doing lately - video games, building marble tracks, etc. I am still struggling with the academic side of things because it comes rather easily to him, but I know we can use other areas, i.e. sports, etc., to help him build a growth mindset that will help him all throughout his life.This book features a decent amount of concrete examples for children of all ages. But without talking to other parents, I don't know that it would have been quite as effective for me. As I said above, it's a great introduction, but parents truly looking to implement growth mindset practices may need to go further in their studies.Blog: Mom's Radius

This book is absolutely excellent and I recommend it for everyone who has a child in their life. We tend to be praising the wrong things and when you read this, it makes total sense to change from a Fixed Mindset to a Growth Mindset. I'm working on changing my mindset so I can be a better Grammy! 5 Stars!

Great read for parents!

A must read for parents, educators, and coaches! An easy read and strategies are simple yet powerful. An entire chapter is devoted to sports and has great perspective on encouraging athletes to be reflective and set goals for personal growth. As the wife of a coach, I loved the list of encouraging praise to use on the sidelines. A book I will read and reread.

I just finished my first two chairs based on plans from this book, and for the most part am pleased. I am somewhere between a novice and intermediate carpenter, and found the book reasonably easy to use. Two chairs took about 2 weeks to finish, with an hour or so spent most nights.The good points: There is a complete materials set. The instructions are straight-forward and logical (except as noted below). The end result is a fairly good looking chair.The bad points: The directions include an option for a slightly rounded chair, rather than just a flat back which I find uncomfortable. Instead of just making this a completely new set of directions, there was a whole set of modifications to the existing instructions. They were a little confusing, and required a lot of page flipping to integrate. How much more could it have cost to just add another page or two to the book? Also, there were an option for a profiled seat, but no specifics. While it is true that this is somewhat of a personal preference item, the book only offered an instruction to figure out what was comfortable to you. There should have been a general suggestion as to a profile. If you want a rounded seat, you are on your own. Summary: I found the shortcomings above to be problematic. I bought the book because I just wanted to cut and screw together wood without a whole lot of thinking. If I wanted to design a chair, I would have done that. I ended up doing a bit of work creating a seat profile. Other than that, it was ok. It was better than some of the other books I have seen for clarity and description, and it was obvious that the author had actually built a chair from the plans. I have seen plans that were more detailed and complete for the options listed above, but this is certainly a good jumping off point. And if you are comfortable in a flat-backed non-profiled seat chair, the instructions are perfect.

This one is for the home handyman who wants to have Adirondack chairs, foot stools and tables. Well done directions for anyone who has and can use simple tools. She tells you what materials and tools are needed and there are detailed directions on how to make the furniture. Well done directions to making your own great Adirondack furniture. I really love Adirondack chairs as I am sure many others do who have ever used one.

I love this book. I'm a novice at woodworking and also a visual learner. This book was super easy for me to use. The instructions were very simple and it also gives a picture for each step. I just completed my first chair and do it stool in a day and a half.

There're a lot of good life lessons in this nonfiction work. The author, Mick Ebeling, is a fireball, a good guy who seems never to slow down. In watching him bring about the almost-impossible, you feel empowered. I enjoyed his narrative voice, which reminded me of Tim Ferriss.There's good and not-so-good in his story. For one thing, I thought I was going to read about a trip to Sudan to give a boy a 3D arm and hand, but for the first 100 pages of the book, it was another story entirely. Very inspirational, but still. And after a while, I jokingly wrote in my notes (at page 104), "Yeah, Mick, we get it, you're bitchen', but what's in it for me?" It was tongue-in-cheek, but I was getting a little tired of his awesomeness.But then at the 36% mark (on my Kindle), I wrote, "the reason I bought this book." Because Ebeling talked about how we "create meanings around what can and can't be done. These are not facts - they are conversations that we have in our heads..." and about changing your brain to anticipate the positive. There's more but you get the idea. It's great.I didn't care for the part where he talks about selfishness as being a good thing, because it's not predictably so. For every person whose selfish actions (e.g. a desire to feel good about himself) leads to a positive outcome (e.g. new 3D arms for crippled children), there's another guy whose selfishness is about helping himself to your wallet. That analogy (about the pancakes, Mick) made me squeamish; it undermined his other proclamations.But all in all, it's a pretty cool read, a lot of nice things happened, and you can take some of his life lessons to the bank. I especially liked the strategy of looking at an upcoming challenge in the past tense, as if it already happened. Plus his narrative voice is funny and personable. So I recommend the book.

Mick Ebeling and his group are selfless and wonderful people who think of others before themselves. Mick has won many awards for his work helping the less fortunate be able to get along in life much better. To be honest, Mick is the son of a dear friend. However, if you knew what he and his group did you would be amazed as well. Not Impossible makes DIY, accessible, tech-based solutions for people around the world, and then powerfully tells those stories to inspire others to do the same. This is an incredible book written by an amazing man. I had the privilege of hearing Mick speak at a conference last week. His positive attitude and spirit of service are truly inspiring. This book is a great read and will truly make you feel that so many things in life you may have thought were impossible are Not Impossible!

Third book even better! This should be a TV series because it has drama, romance, Action and twists. This series is Worth the read.

Some minor spoilers follow. Alice's father showed up and wanted to have some quality father-daughter time with her. Considering the guy disappeared shortly after she was born never to be seen again quality time with him was the last thing Alice wanted to have. There was a deranged serial killer (aren't they all deranged?) at large and Alice and her company were too bust trying to make plans to take him down. By the way in my opinion the identity of the villain was revealed too early and as a result this book felt light on mystery. Add lots of teen angst (justified in most of the cases though) and you will get a good idea about this book.Despite what I just said it was a good read and I was never bored. Some of the characters were great and the situation they ended up were quite unexpected and interesting; equally interesting revelations were present too. The ending left me feeling strange: on one hand it felt like a cheap way out, on the other hand it was mysterious enough to make me want to know what exactly happened.I felt like this book was slightly weaker than the first two. This probably was coming from the fact that it as obvious that the last confrontation is coming and who the person to be confronted is. Thus the real rating would be 3.5 stars, but based on the strength of those two and the fact that this is the author's first published work I do not hesitate rounding the rating up. Once again, as a debut the whole trilogy is a very solid effort with some rough edges. Dear author, keep on writing!

I am wondering though if there is going to be a fourth book, but I didnâ€™t think everything was wrapped up. There is enough open doors for a fourth book or even a spin off.This book picks right up where Chasing the Beta left off. Alice is on a revenge seeking track and is determined to avenge her motherâ€™s death. She is trying to enough life with Sam, but is finding if very difficult to move on. I do actually understand why she is acting like she is. Put yourself in her shoes and see how you would feel. I do actually understand her point of view on her dad, but I felt like it was a little too much. She doesnâ€™t have the full story and really doesnâ€™t want to know it. Also, I really didnâ€™t like how she blamed everyone for her motherâ€™s death, but, then again, it did make for a good storyline.One thing that I noticed was the big change in Aliceâ€™s character. I have liked her clear through the series, but there was something different about her. She is no longer the sweet girl, but one who is violent and revenge seeking. Again, the events in her life are the reason, but I was shocked. I did like how she did embrace this new character.I still enjoyed the rest of the characters. I thought they were all well written and rounded-though Ryder is still a bit of a control freak. Character development has been one of Jessicaâ€™s strengths clear through the series and this is no different. I did love the relationships she exploded with the minor characters. It really adds something a little something extra to the story. I donâ€™t know...Itâ€™s just a nice touch.I have seen people gripping about the use a rape in the story. Yeah, I really donâ€™t know how I feel about that either. I thought it really explained the character in question and made me understand why she is the way she is. I donâ€™t know...I didnâ€™t however like how Alice judged people on this subject. It really did make me look down on her character.Jessicaâ€™s writing has improved. Itâ€™s still very simple, but she has improved on so many levels. Often times, we see the writing improve, but the story suffer. This isnâ€™t the case here. We still have the same story, but I think it is much better written. The plot really isnâ€™t complex and still reminds me of Twilight, but I still really enjoyed it.Like the other books in the series, this is not to be read as a standalone, but I do think most people would find this to be a rather enjoyable read-especially if you are a fan of Twilight.

This series is getting better and better. Ms. Edwards writing is developing which I truly welcomed with happiness.Be warned: book 3 is much darker than previous books! There are some triggers: violence, abuse ad rape.Now about the book: Alice's dad is back in town. She doesn't want to have anything in common with him. Understandable.Everything is coming to the last encounter with the bad guy - Mr. Edmunt. Some past secrets are revealed - these ones kept me on the edge!Be prepared for major cliff t the end - book 4 will be highly anticipated.

This book was a bit darker than the others but still easy to read. Finally Ryder and Alice got it together!! At some points I wanted to scream and shake them. Some parts were a little too high school drama but since thatâ€™s what they are, in high school thatâ€™s to be expected. I was really happy how we get to see the characters stories wrap up and questions answered, that epilogue tho...I need book 4 now!

I'm disappointed in this book. The idea for a good story was there but it is too poorly written. The dialogue drags on & seems to be just filler. I read the whole series to see where it ended up but couldn't really enjoy it.

Alice and the gang are becoming closer and farther apart at the same time. Excellent book! Each installment gets better!

I had a very hard time with all the errors. I did read all 3 books but at times I wanted to give up. Honestly if the story was written better and didnt have alot of errors, I would have given it at least 4 stars for plot. That being said, I still enjoyed the story. It just irritates me when I have read through the errors to get to the story.
