I sent this back. I bought this book as it was priced well compared to another reference. There are fewer procedures included than expected and many of the topics were somewhat obscure. Just not user friendly nor particularly useful. Would have been more helpful to show step by step procedures of common procedures.

I really love this book. I am currently an emergency RN seeking my FNP and planning to work in my ER upon graduation. For what my MSN program is lacking in teaching clinical procedures, etc., this book really fills in a lot of the gaps. I think if you are needing a very comprehensive, basic introduction, this is the perfect book. It goes into a lot of details on procedures which is great, and includes excellent illustrations and pictures as well. There is also access to online videos which I have not watched yet, but plan to. I don't think it is as fully comprehensive as a book you could probably get for more money but it is great for a really decent introduction. The manual contains drug dosages and common drugs to prescribe for certain situations, such as augmentin for dog/cat bites. It also describes in detail digital blocks, abcess removal, suturing and suture removal. I do think this is a great introduction to these procedures, but it can be helpful to augment your learning with videos.

This is the updated version,Procedures are the same, but insurance and billing info had been added...great resource.

I think the content of this book is useful. Unfortunately, there are serious formatting issues with the Kindle edition. I certainly don't want to carry around a bunch of heavy books but I returned the Kindle edition and ordered the hard copy.

It arrived today as promised. This is a wonderful calendar, with lovely photographs and recipes. I'm currently enjoying the 2018 Herb Gardens Calendar, and I'll enjoy next year's calendar just as much, I'm sure.

I can't wait to try the recipes and work the featured herbs into my diet. Every holiday I can think of are listed along with the phases of the moon. There are many helpful suggestions throughout each month. Bonus - they plant a tree for each purchase.*Update 01/07/19 I tried the recipe for Creamy Cauliflower and Greens Soup with Herbs. It was easy to make and delicious.

My favorite calendar year after year. Quality product and beautiful photos. Very soothing to have one in the office.

This book is a masterpiece. Yes, as many reviewers noted, it is purely a literary piece. So if you are not up for that, it's not for you. Great swaths of the story erupt, in actuality, as long, magnificent poems. Poems of prose. Likely this would not have been the intent of the author, except secondarily, perhaps. But the writing is that good. It is incredible, evocative brilliance. Word smithing in its best light. Yes, the theme of a dysfunctional Irish family spanning the second half of the 20th century (with its rooted fate taking form in the first half) can be an over-worked and tired premise. But this story broke free of any such premise, and from every unintended theme. This is work of mining the soul, an exposition of the fabric of one person's past, pain, and makings. And the clever, persistent inability of memory, or perhaps truth-bearing, to serve us properly in the wake of trauma. Enright makes these revelations, through her main character, in raw, intimate, and inimitable strokes of language that are layered, gorgeous, metaphorical, and masterful. It's not so much about the story; it's about the language, the words, the ability to express deep, truthful, savory, layered human experience through poetic labors - that's what this book is. What a writer. Breathtaking. Bravo, Ms Enright... Bravo!!

This is an excellent read. Spoiler alert though -- it is about sexual abuse of children, and the wide-reaching impact that abuse had on an entire family and community. There are many themes -- literary, psychological and cultural. For me, though, the deeply dangled web wrought by sexual abuse -- the ruined lives, the alcoholism and the deaths caused by it, are at the heart of the novel. The narrator has memories, some real and some false, that she struggles with to figure out why her brother committed suicide. I came away feeling as though I knew that family -- all its members -- and wished I didn't. I classify it as horror. It even has ghosts in it! And the story unwinds in a truly terrifying manner.

At first I was very put off by the book because I was lost. I didn't know what had to do with what. But what made me stay with the book is the incredible power of the writing and the dark humor. There are lines in this book that almost make me cry because they are said so movingly. Once I realized what was going on (and I wish we knew a little earlier), then all hell broke lose in my head. This is not a comfortable book; it is an honest, accurate, very real book. The confusion of the narrator in terms of her own abuse was written by someone who obviously knew what she was writing about. A beautiful but sad book which I will remember a long time.

Educational AND very readable, compared to most ancient works. This is like the script to I Claudius, but it has a lot of valuable history as well. The struggles between the Senate, the people, and the very rich, generals and demagogues who became dictators were in the minds of the Founding Fathers of the US and are still relevant today.HOWEVER BE AWARE this version has added material written much later than the original, which was written in 121 AD.I still hightly recommed the whole book, original and added material, both are useful and informative.Exmples of added material: for instance there is a reference to "the pagan world" (page 28, loc 927) and "pounds sterling" (page 25 location 836), and somewhere a quote from St Augustine.I got a print copy of Penguin's The Twelve Caesars and compared it. It appears all the mini-bios of contemporaries that occur at the end of each emporer's bio are added later. In the life of Julius Caesar, the Penguin book ends at the sentence"Part of them perished at sea, others fell in battle; and some slew themselves ....The Kindle book continues with "The termination of the civil war between Caesar and Pompey forms a new epoch in the Roman History...". Then follow reflections on the career of Caesar, and short and interesting bios of Cicero, Varro, Cattulus, and others. These were added later, probably in the 19th century by a British writer.-1 star for not making clear what is by Suetonius and what is not, and for "this book is not enabled for searching"--come on Amazon, that's the biggest advantage of digital books.More on the additions: I found the same text on Perseus at Tufts U and it had this information:"... In order to more fully "paint the picture of the times," we have had written and interspersed in chronological order, the lives of all the distinguished associates of the Twelve Caesars, male and female, which we trust will be a great improvement on any previous edition."He also did some censoring, though he left in plenty:"By the suppression of about two dozen lines in the entire work, which have been indicated by * * * * we have produced a work unobjectionable for general reading; the suppressed passages refer to grossly unnatural crimes which probably never were committed - but the relation of which was likely prompted by the political party rancour of the period."The Tufts citation: Suetonius: The Lives of the Twelve Caesars; An English Translation, Augmented with the Biographies of Contemporary Statesmen, Orators, Poets, and Other Associates. This is the first in a series about thirteen year old fraternal twins, Bryce and Ashley. In this first book, we learn their backstory. Their father died in a plane crash while their mother was pregnant with their younger brother, Dylan. Since then, they've moved from Illinois to Colorado, their mother re-married, and they became Christians. This is a fast-paced book which has the usual tribulations that tweens experience as well as a mystery that seems to follow them. Bryce is bullied in school over his ATV while Ashley feels she was a bad witness to her friend by doing something she knew, as a Christian, she shouldn't have done. In the middle of their school/friend troubles, the twins go away for the weekend with Dylan and their step-dad Sam. They travel to an old town to visit an exhibit of a huge gold nugget. Somehow when the nugget is stolen, they are drawn into the mystery and stalked by a mystery man. The chapters are told in first-person voice, alternating between Bryce and Ashley. Since the chapters are really short, this book feels like a very quick read. The twins are realistic and likeable. They struggle with living in a blended family, living a Christian life, and trying to figure out the mystery of the missing gold nugget. I enjoyed this quick, and sometimes humorous, read and recommend it to tweens who are interested in seeing faith played out among their age group. I have to say that this book does end on a shocking cliffhanger so be prepared to want to read book two Stolen Secrets (Red Rock Mysteries Book 2)!

Seem real to me and kept my attention.A mom and her three kids move to colorado. She is a writer and has a new husband.Her first husband was killed in a plane crash. The oldest are twins.Ashley and Bryce Timberline they are 13.They now have a older step sister and a new stepfather.Thier is a bully at school that is threatening them. He wants to take their 4 wheelersthat they ride to school each day.They go with thier stepdad for a weekend getaway to see some of Colorado history and to bond. After Sam scares the man off, they discover a priceless gold nugget was stolen from the museum they’d visited earlier in the day, and they surmise a connection. But what does the stalker want? The man returns and after a harrowing fight and flight scene, leaves the family for dead after ramming their vehicle into a frigid lake where it sinks with all onboard. How will they escape? The authors artfully weave a strong spiritual thread with adjusting to a blended family and real life middle school “situations” into this high action, page turning suspense.

The dual narrative is a neat feature, but it causes really short chapters. The narrative itself isn't bad. The story isn't wrapped up neatly with this book, though, you need to keep reading in the series (I assume, I've only read this first book) for some details to be concluded. There is definitely a cliff hanger at the end of the book that will probably floor kids, but about which adults will likely be able to take some decent guesses. Overall, I recommend.

My son is 9 years old, has ADHD and a hard time reading. He got a kindle for Christmas in hopes to help with his reading. As I was searching for books to download on Amazon I couldn't seem to find any he was interested in until I found the Red Rock Mystery books!! We listen to Family Life Radio and hear these stories at 7 pm eastern time and you just can't help, but to get sucked in to the mysterious events that go on in the stories. Even my 4 year old daughter loves to listen to them. So when I found the books I was so excited to see they were just as interesting as the ones on the radio. It puts you on your toes, making you not want to put your kindle down and just keep reading. My son loves to read it and can't just read 1 chapter, but ends up reading 4 or more! So happy we found these and we'll definitely be buying more.

About the Author

Lewis Dartnell is a Professor of Science Communication at the University of Westminster. Before that, he completed his biology degree at the University of Oxford and his PhD at UCL, and then worked as the UK Space Agency research fellow at the University of Leicester, studying astrobiology and searching for signs of life on Mars. I lived on Amsterdam Ave., between 141 and 142 Streets from five to 10 years old (60+ years ago). This book brought back many memories of my early childhood. City College, The Convent Avenue Baptist Church, and P.S.192, were part of my life. I was not fortunate enough to live in those beautiful brownstones but, still remember trying to imagine what life could be like if I lived behind those doors. This is the kind of heartwarming story that you want to jump inside and become a part of the community. Ms. Glaser has made me believe that the Vanderbeekers must truly exist somewhere.When the Vanderbeekers receive notice that they have to move out of their beloved New York apartment right after Christmas, the children take action. They decide to befriend the mysterious and curmudgeonly landlord, Mr. Beiderman, in hopes of inspiring him with a change of heart.What I loved so much about this story is the sense of community that is tangible. Everyone wants to live in a neighborhood like this one. But even more, it is the reminder that streets like 141st Street don't just happen. It takes action. It takes looking beyond first appearances. And it takes loving people who might truly seem unlovable. Our world could use a few more stories like this one.

I ordered this in February for the Middle Grade at Heart newsletter book club, but saved it, knowing that it was exactly my favorite kind of book and wanting to read it when I really needed it. That moment came this week. A couple of different things combined to make for a really stressful start to the week, and more than anything I needed to be able to dive into a book was comforting and sweet. I've always loved middle grade family adventures, and many of the classic and modern families from these books have become dear friends. From the minute I saw promotion for this book last year, I knew that it was when I was going to love, and I was not disappointed. VANDERBEEKERS is like a warm cup of tea in book form: sweet, soothing, and utterly enjoyable, the kind of thing that can't help but restore some of your faith in humanity. I loved it so much I immediately went out and pre-ordered the sequel, which is not something I do very often! Karina Yan Glaser utterly captures the old fashioned feel of the large Vanderbeeker family and their equally heartwarming and madcap adventures, managing to make the story feel perfectly classic but also modern and fresh. The Vanderbeeker are definitely going in that special place in my heart along with families like the Melendys, the Penderwicks, the Fletchers, and all of the classic middle grade families I discovered in my childhood.

Charming is the word that comes to mind when I think about this tween novel. Set in Harlem, the Vanderbeekers' lease is not being renewed to the brownstone they have lived in for years. The five children are upset about this news and set about devising a plan to change their landlord's mind. Having never seen the landlord, Mr. Beiderman, over the years they have lived there, he has grown in their imagination a someone who is larger than life. Although the plot is a bit predictable, this book is so fun and would make a great read-aloud. I would enjoy checking in on the Vanderbeekers in the future.

Karina Yan Glaser’s novel, The Vanderbeekrs of 141st Street, takes place entirely during the week before Christmas. You feel the gearing up for the holidays taking place in the setting of this story, especially the nostalgia that we all feel for our childhood homes during the holidays. The nostalgia runs deep for the Vanderbeeker children, and now that is all suddenly at risk to be coming to an end.The Vanderbeekers are losing their family home, or the bottom floor of their apartment building. They have just been given notice that their landlord, the old, grumpy Mr. Biederman, has refused to allow the Vanderbeekers the opportunity to renew their lease. The Vanderbeeker children are devastated at the thought of leaving their Harlem neighborhood, and they hatch a plan to convince grumpy Mr. Biederman to let their family stay.All five of the Vanderbeeker children join forces and add their individual spins, talents, and personalities to the efforts to win over Mr. Biederman. Naturally, things go all wrong for the children, and their sweet efforts to help save their home may actually be adding fuel to Mr. Biederman’s desire to have them gone for good. However, like true holiday books, the spirit of home, holidays, and families may just prevail in the long run.
