Marcus Wesson clearly created confusion and chaos in every life he touched. It would be easy to get lost in the complex relations he created - but Mr. Becker does an excellent job of laying out each relationship, each person, and their connections so that you don't get lost in the maze of Marcus Wesson. His story is so shocking on so many levels that when it comes to the murders, you almost forget them, buried as they are under a roiling disgusting mass of incest, delusions, and abuse. While the authors do a fine job of clearly answering the questions that arise in a reader's mind - I have a few questions I'd like to ask not only Elizabeth, but her mother! It is clear that Marcus Wesson was a monster easily on the same scale, actually I think, worse, than Charles Manson. The second bonus story is also well-written. I admit I had already read it - being a big fan of Mr. Becker's true crime books, and I have reviewed it on it's own page so I won't go over it again here.
This book is terrifying, amazingly written, totally captivating. Besides not being able to put this book down, it makes the reader think, feel, acknowledge and think again. Mr. Becker is the real deal when it comes to true crime authors. He writes with intelligence and compassion but mostly with honesty. Mr. Becker does not sugar coat any gruesome details, why should he? It's about time someone told these stories of evil beyond evil, exactly as they happened. I highly recommend this book and all other writings of Mr Beckers. You won't be disappointed. Thank you Mr. Becker, please keep writing, if any author can make a difference, it will be you.
To be honest, I have read two other very lengthy novels on Marcus Wesson and the carnage he bestowed on his family! Although they were very informative they left me with a lot of questions. By reading this book by Ryan Becker a lot of the questions were answered because he laid the story out in layman's terms so that it would be quite understandable! It's as if he was there when it happens and he gets the story from all angles, not just two-sided! I recommend this book to anyone who is a true crime fanatic, such as myself, who wants to read the real story without all the court room drama and legalese!
I was surprised when the book ended only 46% of the way through. The rest of the book was poorly written profiles of serial killers, all info from newspapers, nothing original or new. "Something must be said before we continue...", "Now, reader, do you remember that rendering plant that we described earlier?" "Daniel Camargo was a very unique murderer." And ending one disturbing story about Robert Pickton, a man who fed murdered women to his pigs, with the line "Food for thought?" was offensive, though I don't think the author meant to be. Just shoddy writing. The story about Wesson was not bad, but extremely short, didn't explain much more than you would have read on line. Amazon suggested this after I read some excellent Jack Olsen books, and this overall was a disappointment.
Although the subject matter was interesting, the lack of any order made this impossible to read. This book is badly written. I got the impression that it was taken from court documents with no attempt to organize the material into a cohesive document. It is simply a cherry picking collection of the mind control Wesson exherted ober his followers.
This story seems like it was made up it’s so horrible. I for some reason had not heard about this family and a that occurred. I loved the book once again the writing is great. What I love about Ryan Becker’s true crime books is he gives just the right amount of detail so you know all you need to but you are not reading through hours of step by step court details etc. I won’t name the author who does that. I will just say once again Ryan Becker puts out a great well written book! It’s just the story that is so unbelievable its terrible. I would definitely recommend this book!
A well written documentation of Marcus Wesson's twisted beliefs and his part in the deaths of 9 of his children. Hard to believe that no one intervened with the deplorable living conditions and lack of education the children received.
This is a quick read. It's not as in depth as some of author's other books but once you start reading, you'll see why he chose not to be very detailed. It's the story of another person with a God complex starting a cult consisting solely of his own relatives. Even without all the sick details, this subject will make you cringe.
