Although the story is very sad and deserves an entire different review, my comments are focused on the writing of it. There are a multitude of grammar, syntax, spelling and typing mistakes that greatly affect its presentation. The story lacks flow and is shy of a negligent journalistic presentation. Editing is an almost non-existing factor.

Every teen girl? NEEDS to read this book. It is a stark reminder that our world IS NOT safe and that even in small town America? Horrible crimes like human trafficking CAN and do happen. This book is raw with emotion and told in the very thoughts and words of the victim herself, a young, vulnerable, naive and trusting teen. Gritty, brutally honest and tragic...One error of poor judgement? Will forever change this young life.

The evil that human beings are capable of is mind boggling. I don't understand it. This book brings home the reality of sex trafficking. I recommend it to anyone trying to help the victims as it gives a very clear picture of what it is really like and the pure hell they go through.

The story needs to be told and it's terrifying! However, as others have said, there are many typos, grammatical errors and a general lack of proofing that diminish the pleasure and ease of reading it!

This is a great book for anyone interested in getting started with Natural Building. Conrad guides you through all the required steps from foundation on up in a very succinct yet comprehensive way. I also had the opportunity to attend one of his workshops that basically followed everything in the book and helped me greatly in getting hands on experience. I like his writing and teaching style as he gets straight to the essentials and always has great tips for achieving the best results in a simple way - perhaps due to his many years of acquiring knowledge and expertise. This book could be a good guide to help you get started with a small project (like a cob oven in your backyard) and then help guide you to something bigger once you had some hands on experience. Lastly, there are also techniques mentioned that can help turn your conventional home into a natural home - depending on how much effort one is willing to put into it - from adding light straw-clay in walls, to applying natural plaster and even natural paint to top it off.

I found that in reading Conrad's book I began to resonate with his deeper purpose in writing his book. He is very good with specific technical details that any beginner, like myself, really needs. But what is also needed is the motivation to actually do it. Cob is labor intensive and in this instant access culture, we are not taught the value of patience, love of work in the present moment which takes away the boredom of any task and how all of this returns us back to ourselves, our Spirits.I really appreciate the honesty and integrity of the author in saying that cob building is time consuming but what else ARE we doing that is so important anyway? More movies, more texting, more empty stimulation? He points out that we all want to connect to the earth, do something REAL and feel the pride and satisfaction that is intrinsic to building our own abode- something that has been done for millennia yet is so foreign in this recent day and age. I think with this book he is trying to bring that back and to teach from a beginning level with enough how-to's that anyone can start in whichever way they can.I highly recommend this book.

Conrad Rogue's book on earthen construction is a must for all back-to-the-landers, as well as anyone interested in trying to live more simply in our increasingly complex and fragmented world. For it is not just a how-to build book but in many ways a how-to live book on using simple materials and techniques to beautify one's surroundings and learn how to live more compassionately and joyfully. Plus, these buildings are just damn fun to build.

I highly recommend this book if you are interested in learning more about earthen building and/or if you are preparing to do some earthen building of your own. I have read and appreciated using "The Hand-Sculpted House" which thoroughly covers cob building. What's nice about My House of Earth is that it covers in much more detail various other types of earthen building techniques, such as adobe and earthbags. There is also helpful and more technical information about earthen building that is not covered in the first book mentioned. I have gotten well into my own first cob project (a smaller backyard building), and so I feel I can speak to the benefits of this book not just as a reader but as someone who has referenced it repeatedly throughout a build project. I received my training from a workshop w/ Conrad (the book's author). He is a great and fun teacher, and I recommend his workshops as well.

I read this book for a two-part parent book discussion at my son's school. Growth mindset and fixed mindset were terms I was only vaguely familiar with before reading this book. Afterwards I was intimately aware of their meaning. In that sense this book was a terrific overview of these concepts for parents.I took the quiz at the beginning of the book and was not too surprised to discover that I have a rather fixed mindset about learning and ability. I was praised for being smart my whole life, and I strongly believe that my ability is based on something innate within me. And I feel the same about my son. This book did point out that emphasizing intelligence over hard work can make it difficult for children when they're faced with new experiences requiring skills that they don't already possess. I know I have always shied away from things that I don't do well.Coupled with the book discussion with our school's vice principal, I learned a lot about how to speak to my son about perseverance and persistence. I have found myself trying to encourage him to try again or put forth some additional effort in the things he's been doing lately - video games, building marble tracks, etc. I am still struggling with the academic side of things because it comes rather easily to him, but I know we can use other areas, i.e. sports, etc., to help him build a growth mindset that will help him all throughout his life.This book features a decent amount of concrete examples for children of all ages. But without talking to other parents, I don't know that it would have been quite as effective for me. As I said above, it's a great introduction, but parents truly looking to implement growth mindset practices may need to go further in their studies.Blog: Mom's Radius

This book is absolutely excellent and I recommend it for everyone who has a child in their life. We tend to be praising the wrong things and when you read this, it makes total sense to change from a Fixed Mindset to a Growth Mindset. I'm working on changing my mindset so I can be a better Grammy! 5 Stars!

Good read

Great read for parents!

A must read for parents, educators, and coaches! An easy read and strategies are simple yet powerful. An entire chapter is devoted to sports and has great perspective on encouraging athletes to be reflective and set goals for personal growth. As the wife of a coach, I loved the list of encouraging praise to use on the sidelines. A book I will read and reread.

I just finished my first two chairs based on plans from this book, and for the most part am pleased. I am somewhere between a novice and intermediate carpenter, and found the book reasonably easy to use. Two chairs took about 2 weeks to finish, with an hour or so spent most nights.The good points: There is a complete materials set. The instructions are straight-forward and logical (except as noted below). The end result is a fairly good looking chair.The bad points: The directions include an option for a slightly rounded chair, rather than just a flat back which I find uncomfortable. Instead of just making this a completely new set of directions, there was a whole set of modifications to the existing instructions. They were a little confusing, and required a lot of page flipping to integrate. How much more could it have cost to just add another page or two to the book? Also, there were an option for a profiled seat, but no specifics. While it is true that this is somewhat of a personal preference item, the book only offered an instruction to figure out what was comfortable to you. There should have been a general suggestion as to a profile. If you want a rounded seat, you are on your own. Summary: I found the shortcomings above to be problematic. I bought the book because I just wanted to cut and screw together wood without a whole lot of thinking. If I wanted to design a chair, I would have done that. I ended up doing a bit of work creating a seat profile. Other than that, it was ok. It was better than some of the other books I have seen for clarity and description, and it was obvious that the author had actually built a chair from the plans. I have seen plans that were more detailed and complete for the options listed above, but this is certainly a good jumping off point. And if you are comfortable in a flat-backed non-profiled seat chair, the instructions are perfect.

This one is for the home handyman who wants to have Adirondack chairs, foot stools and tables. Well done directions for anyone who has and can use simple tools. She tells you what materials and tools are needed and there are detailed directions on how to make the furniture. Well done directions to making your own great Adirondack furniture. I really love Adirondack chairs as I am sure many others do who have ever used one.

I love this book. I'm a novice at woodworking and also a visual learner. This book was super easy for me to use. The instructions were very simple and it also gives a picture for each step. I just completed my first chair and do it stool in a day and a half.

There're a lot of good life lessons in this nonfiction work. The author, Mick Ebeling, is a fireball, a good guy who seems never to slow down. In watching him bring about the almost-impossible, you feel empowered. I enjoyed his narrative voice, which reminded me of Tim Ferriss.There's good and not-so-good in his story. For one thing, I thought I was going to read about a trip to Sudan to give a boy a 3D arm and hand, but for the first 100 pages of the book, it was another story entirely. Very inspirational, but still. And after a while, I jokingly wrote in my notes (at page 104), "Yeah, Mick, we get it, you're bitchen', but what's in it for me?" It was tongue-in-cheek, but I was getting a little tired of his awesomeness.But then at the 36% mark (on my Kindle), I wrote, "the reason I bought this book." Because Ebeling talked about how we "create meanings around what can and can't be done. These are not facts - they are conversations that we have in our heads..." and about changing your brain to anticipate the positive. There's more but you get the idea. It's great.I didn't care for the part where he talks about selfishness as being a good thing, because it's not predictably so. For every person whose selfish actions (e.g. a desire to feel good about himself) leads to a positive outcome (e.g. new 3D arms for crippled children), there's another guy whose selfishness is about helping himself to your wallet. That analogy (about the pancakes, Mick) made me squeamish; it undermined his other proclamations.But all in all, it's a pretty cool read, a lot of nice things happened, and you can take some of his life lessons to the bank. I especially liked the strategy of looking at an upcoming challenge in the past tense, as if it already happened. Plus his narrative voice is funny and personable. So I recommend the book.

Mick Ebeling and his group are selfless and wonderful people who think of others before themselves. Mick has won many awards for his work helping the less fortunate be able to get along in life much better. To be honest, Mick is the son of a dear friend. However, if you knew what he and his group did you would be amazed as well. Not Impossible makes DIY, accessible, tech-based solutions for people around the world, and then powerfully tells those stories to inspire others to do the same. Mick takes making, hacking, and DIY to a whole new level with real people and real problems. This is a book to inform and inspire. I recommend reading and discussing it with leadership teams across any organization, with young people, and with your own children, family members, and friends. This book is a reminder that it's all about mindset, it's all about what's possible, and that it all starts with us. Stop second guessing and start doing! Begin by buying this book for yourself and everyone you know and care about.

This is an incredible book written by an amazing man. I had the privilege of hearing Mick speak at a conference last week. His positive attitude and spirit of service are truly inspiring. This book is a great read and will truly make you feel that so many things in life you may have thought were impossible are Not Impossible!

Excellent book which shows that if you can image it and can see the need for a group of people, it is possible to build something cheaply that fulfils the need.

Two things really stand out for me from this book. Commit first, and, if now not when, if not me, who? It has compelled me to think differently about the problems I see and what I can or will do about them.

Heard him speak and immediately bought his book. This is a must read for everybody. Very inspirational and motivating to hear his story.
