I was very disappointed in this book. It was simply a book of pictures of VERY complex designs, with no ideas or instructions at all, just pictures of things I could never hope to achieve just by looking at the pictures. Sold it on Ebay to some other sucker, who is probably also disappointed.

I am a pro cake decorator and am always looking for good "inspiration" books. I like a book that I can let a client flip through and talk about what they like and what they don't. I love that the treats presented in the book are from "real" cake decorators like me and not Cake Boss, Ace of Cakes, etc. These are treats anyone would love to have at their event and not over the top, overly sculpted, very spesific cakes.If you are looking for instruction or how-to, this is definitely not the book for you. It is pictures, pictures, pictures, and more pictures. There are no recipes, and there is no instruction. This is an inspiration only book and you can take the ideas and run with them.In short, this is a book that I will keep on my shelf forever, and will be looking for more like it in the future.

Disappointed. No instructions how to create these beautiful masterpieces. No recipes to make them. Just a 1000 pictures to look at and wonder. ðŸ˜ž

This was an interesting journey that surprised me in that, thinking that there might be some tutorials to go along with the photo's, this is instead literally 1000 photographs of cakes and cookies and cupcakes.Within the covers of this paperback book are full-page or half-page or quarter-page photographs of cookies, cakes, and cupcakes that will definitely inspire. Under each photo is the name of the person that created the baked delight. Though some of these credits will be just the names of the decorators, some will have the accompanying website that you can access for further idea's. If you do go to the websites offered, there you will find more photo's along with some beautiful tutorials and/or instruction as well as more information on the decorator. So with a little extra effort, your journey will take you to many parts of the world to learn more on the photo's that piqued your interest. A feast for your eyes. This is a picture book it shows on a global scale just what can be done with sugar, flavoring & a little water tossed inwith color. The designs run from deceptively simple to quite complex.Check out what the woman in Turkey did with the petit fours -absolutely exquisite !There are no how-to's at the very end there are two recipes - thats it.Normally I wouldn't have paid full price just to look at pictures alonebut in all honesty I bookmarked 70% of the pages and ran out of mylittle tabs long before I was finished cover to cover.Quite a few of the cookies were stamped first then "painted over"with frosting. I don't remember seeing color flow work but it couldbe there. If you don't know the techniques for doing the work thatis done this book will definitely spark your urge to learn how.I highly recommend this book if only to get you motivated to create.The reason I gave it a 4 stars instead of 5 was due to lack of instructionon some of their more intricate patterns. I'd love an encore.

I read the reviews before buying so I knew what to expect. Great photo book full of great ideas and lots of inspiration. One of my favorite things about the photos are that they come from around the world, so it's really interesting to see cake, cookies and cupcakes from other countries such as Mexico, Australia, Italy, South Africa and so on. There were just a few photos that made me think "wow.. how did that make it in".. but all in all - really beautiful work.In the back of the book is an image directory listed by number (each image has a number) that will tell you briefly what the item is made from. For example: "0683 Blue Fish: hand-painted rolled fondant" or "0692 Paisley Party Cake: fondant, piped royal icing, airbrush". There's not a how-to for any of them, however, in the contributor directory, there are website links, by company, that lists all the image numbers contributed by that baker/individual.I would recommend it if you're looking for some creative inspiration.

This book was not what I thought it was. I expected to learn which foods would help heal fatty liver disease and which foods to avoid. It devoted about 5 pages to information about the disease and the rest of the book had recipes for foods only the most devoted birkenstock wearing, drum thumping, chime ringing, crystal rubbing, granola eating crunchy vegan would enjoy. I threw it away.

Recipes are not that good, very few dinners. Waste of my money

This is the book I ordered. It arrived in time for class. Book was slightly banged up but as it will only be used once, that's really not much of a problem. Price was a little higher than expected, but better than paying the full price for a one time use book. The book itself is an interesting read, albeit a tad long winded and somewhat repetitive. However, for the most part, I am primarily satisfied with the service and the product in general.

I used it for my online class/ came in good condition.

Just what I needed.

This rental book was in much worse condition than advertised. That, in combination with the ripoff tactics of the rental terms, ensures that I will NEVER rent from Amazon again. I purchase most of my textbooks so I forgot this one was rented. I received a "reminder" that it was overdue AFTER being charged for an extension. Even though I mailed it back prior to the deadline provided by Amazon, I was charged full price for the book and had to contact Amazon for a refund. They provide only media mail postage, which takes a very long time. Luckily, I did keep copies of the postal tracking numbers. The Amazon rep explained that the entire process is automated. Yes, automated to cause the greatest amount of expense and irritation to the customer. They did issue a refund, but had already mailed the books (there were two in this order) back to me. Now I have the added aggravation of another trip to the post office to return the unwanted books for the second time.In summary:Amazon sends a "reminder" after charging you for the rental extension whereas other companies I have rented from send a reminder prior to the due date.They disregard the fact that their policy states that the POSTMARK DATE is the deadline, not the date that they receive it.They ignored the postmark date, which was prior to the shipping deadline, and charged me the full price for two textbooks that I did not want.The email account they use won't accept replies -- you have the additional hassle of having to go to their website and look for contact information to file a complaint.I now have the added cost and time investment of returning books that I do not want.Sorry Amazon, you get an F on this assignment.

This book was in decent condition, worn edges/binding, lots of writing on the inside. It's holding up great though, no real complaints with content. Damage is not so severe as to detriment the book experience.

About the Author

Chris Roth has always enjoyed creating pictures of any kind and absolutely enjoys the combination of computer technology with graphics. He has been working with Visio since The Beginning in 1992, when he was part of the Visio 1.0 team at then-extant Visio Corporation. Since then, he’s continuously been busy helping customers incorporate diagrams, drawings, and visualizations into their daily business and to develop custom graphical solutions based on Visio. A Microsoft Visio MVP since 2002, he has presented sessions at several Visio conferences and has written more than 250 articles about Visio for his “Visio Guy” website (www.visguy.com), which he launched in 2006. Originally from Seattle, he currently lives with his wife and baby daughter in Munich, Germany. Away from family, laptop, and relaxing Bavarian beer gardens, he plays trombone with the TT Orchestra and the wind ensemble Pullacher Blasmusik.

Full Disclosure: I am an acquaintance of the author. The book even mentions me on page 323.My background: I have used Visio extensively for 10 years and continue use it frequently at Microsoft. My knowledge of this application is in the areas of end-user productivity, making visually-compelling diagrams, and driving the application via code C#, VBA, ShapeSheet formulas.This book is the only resource either in print or online that clearly communicates to a normal person how to use Visio's features. It gives insight that only someone who deeply uses the application can provide.The fundamental benefit of this book is that it will *save you time*. It provides in one place that would otherwise only be available through much time, trial-and-error, and confusion.A great example is section 6.2. Section 6.2 describes how to quickly format a table of boxes quickly - avoiding the typical method that requires lots of dragging and dropping of shapes and tedious formatting and re-typing. What you learn in this section will help you with every other diagram you build in Visio. The book has many such sections.What surprised me: At work (Microsoft) I am considered an expert Visio user, however I still found much to learn in the book. The author's knowledge about the application is truly deep.Printed versus Kindle version: I own both, but the Kindle version is the one I use on an iPad and via Amazon's Kindle app. An advantage of the Kindle version is that the screenshots are in color, while the printed version has everything in grayscale.

Nice reference on how to use the 2010 version of Visio, which is the one I have at the office. Lots of exercises in the book where the author takes you through step-by-step so you can learn the features hands-on. Covers pretty much all the basics. I'm relatively inexperienced at Visio and learned a lot about the features available.One caveat on this book, though. Probably because the edition is several years old, the links to the online support materials no longer work. So, for instance, I could not find the bonus online chapter, nor the videos. So if you buy this right now you are pretty much limited to what is in the book itself without the online features.Would be nice if the author made these available on his VisioGuy website, if copyright allows.

Having been recently introduced to Visio 2010 as a tool that I could use to better convey my ideas, I quickly jumped onto Amazon to look for books on the software. What caught my eye with this one is that Chris was one of the developers of Visio in it's early days so the fact that this book includes tips/tricks from one of the experts is reason enough to buy it, this is compounded at least 10x by the fact that this book comes with over 4 hours of videos, all broken out into short easy to manage chunks 2-10 minutes in length.I would have bought it for the videos alone, and now that I've watched them all (have yet to finish reading the book) I can safely assure you I have gone from a complete newbie to being able to explain (with excitement) and show my coworkers the really cool features as mentioned by Chris.I am super excited by all the things Visio is starting to allow myself to do, from creating block diagrams to flow charts, it's the tool I've been missing in trying to convey my own expertise. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is using Visio or just getting started with it.Again cannot stress how valuable having unlimited access to online videos is, it's so much easier to see a quick video with guidance from an expert than having to read pages upon pages of instructions. By buying this book you get both! I'm usually one to borrow books from the library, but this is one purchase I certainly do not regret.

What I like most about this book is two things. 1. The author takes you by the hand and walks you through each process. After he gets done explaining how a task is accomplished he has a section called "Let me try it". Where he walks you through each step so you can get your hands dirty and try it yourself. 2. The other thing I like is that he has a video library on the web where you can log in and watch Chris go through the process.I've bought a lot of books over the years and this one, for me is by far the best teaching book I have come across. If you are new to Visio I highly recommend this book.

I bought this book for two reasons. First: Chris Roth is the ultimate source for everything Visio. The book alone is worth every penny at twice the price.The second reason was the videos. I am pressed for time and looking at the video re-enforces the book and vice versa. The Que mechanism to get to the videos is broken and their customer assistance system is broken, flawed or both. I have received only automated replies from them and no assistance. So I will certainly enjoy the book - but I doubt I will bother with Que again on the basis of any promised Internet extras. Pity, because I have bought a lot of Que books over the years. But in future, if I want the videos and they are not on a DVD in the back of the book, I doubt Que will get my dollars again.

I used Visio for the first time 1 year ago and fumbled my way around until I was tasked with a huge Visio graphic standardization and training project across several departments. I found this book and was happily surprised it told me exactly what I needed to know. In one night I was creating custom templates and stencils for our department. I appreciated the casual style of his writing and occasional humor.The author does a great job at offering both basic and power user techniques. His scenarios are spot on to help guide the way I set things up for our team. The keyboard shortcuts and tips are so good. I hear the words "Right click shapes like there's no tomorrow" in my head every time I open Visio. Great resource.

Good reference on Visio, which I found confusing.

An excellent book. One of those rare authors who explains a topic in great detail, yet in a very easy to understand manner. This book quickly takes the beginning intermediate user to the advanced level. Highly recommended.

Based on what I saw on 60 Minutes (CBS) Sunday (10/23/11) about this book (published by CBS/S&S) and on the "Look Inside" on Amazon, I think the book is well enough written and contains valuable lessons and information that I'd like to have on my bookshelf...forever!***I'LL BUY IT***!I'm greatly stunned and saddened by Steve's death. I don't know how this could have happened to one of God's greatest gifts to the world. I have loved Apple and Steve Jobs for many years and nothing will be the same without him. With the exception of one laptop and 2 non-smart cell phones, in my personal and professional life since 2004 I've had nothing but Apple products - computers (both desktop and laptop), iPads, iPods, and my crown jewel: my iPhone. None has ever disappointed me. I say this not to put forth a review of the Apple products but to explain that I am part of Steve Jobs's choir: I value, respect and rely on the products that he created. I'm sold, so to speak. And so it seemed only logical that I would eventually read this book to gain insight both in the genesis and evolution of Apple and in the person of Steve Jobs. The book did not disappoint in either.What I found out about the early years and the development of the personal computer was fascinating. I do remember a lot of the news articles from those years - I was living in San Francisco at the time and a good friend of mine worked for Apple - but I would not consider myself previously knowledgeable about Apple in any comprehensive way. I learned so much of the nuts and bolts of Apple Computer, Inc., from this book. The chapters about the creation of the iPod, iPhone and iPad were very interesting to someone who has used these products for years and years and feels she has some proficiency using what they offer me.But the insight I gained from the book on Steve Jobs the man left me very sad. While I consider him to have been a true genius with an almost other-worldly imagination, I can't imagine that I would have liked him very much or respected him outside of his professional arena. As the founder and developer of Apple Computer, he was spectacular. He had an intense imagination, vision, and belief in things that had yet to be discovered. He was fortunate enough to find those people who had the same precise work ethic that he did. To find those people and to hone the abilities of the ones who stayed, he had no reservations about crushing their substandard efforts or their feelings. The ones who lasted were the ones who believed in his vision and their Jobs-given opportunity to indulge and demonstrate their own creativity. The ones who lasted were the best and brightest the tech and artistic world had to offer. The ones who lasted were the ones who took his ideas and made them into our reality. I am profoundly grateful to them and to him for the advances they made in technology and artistry. And I guess the one cannot exist without the other. Without his exact personality would the tech world have been turned on its ear and eventually controlled by Apple? I don't know. Actually I doubt it.In terms of his family, it seemed as if his attention to them was given only when it was not required or demanded elsewhere. His children were discussed very little; the same is true about Laurene Powell, his wife. But it is clear that in his wife he found the one person who was his equal in intelligence and commitment. Their marriage is portrayed as strong but him as absent.The sections on his cancer and eventual death were moving but not enough to make me feel for him as a person. I am sorry he died but my sorrow has to do with the loss of him professionally and what he might have accomplished and achieved had he lived but not with the loss of him as a man. And yet I can recognize his genius and I'm glad I read the book.

Although I have awarded this book four stars, I confess that I was unable to finish it. Jobs is certainly not an attractive subject for a biography. Human relations were not his strong point. He was rude, mercurial, arrogant,brash and condescending among other things. On the other hand he was brilliant, had enormous vision, was able to choose the right people to accomplish his goals and he rocked the technical world to its foundations.For me his unattractiveness outweighed the time needed to complete Isaacson's lengthy biography which is probably the best that will ever be written about Jobs. His writing style is very dense; each page is filled with information, observations and a myriad of other details. I found it trying and wearied of Job's bad behavior, arguments unsuccessful romances and what have you., Let others tread where I could not.

My mini-synopsis: This book was a looooong journey. By far the longest books Iâ€™ve read (not very helpful in keeping my average read time down) but it was also one of my favorite. It went through the life of Steve Jobs in an insane amount of detail. From every product launch, to every girlfriend, it covered the whole gambit. I had already heard many things about Jobs such as the fact that he had a child and refused to accept that it was his until years later as well as the fact that he was terrible to his employees. This book drove home those points as well as adding some other crazy facts such as him believing that the youth of today was doomed because they didnâ€™t do LSD. Steve Jobs is iconic and probably the best product centric CEO in history. His journey through life showed that there was definitely a major cost to this but ultimately, the world is better for it.What I learned: Out of all the books I have so far, this one has the biggest impact on my current work. That impact being an obsession on getting the product right. There are many lessons and experts that convince you to be lean and test the smallest hypothesis which is a great strategy but sometimes, you need to follow your gut. When I started reading this book, I had just finished designing out a feature that would encourage much more interaction with our product but was meant to be in a later version. I kept having a feeling that it needed to be put in as soon as possible and reading about Jobsâ€™ gut feelings and obsession for getting it right, pushed me to follow my own feeling and I believe it was a huge decision. Another thing I learned from this book is exactly how I donâ€™t want to treat people. Maybe I am too much of an optimist but I believe that being nice is one of the greatest attributes you can have. I donâ€™t mean you should be a doormat but genuinely wanting to find the best outcome for all parties involved is just right. The way that Jobs treated everyone around him is unacceptable and it is the one thing that will constantly cause an asterisk to be by his name. I learned a lot from this book and I believe it will continue to have a huge effect on my life moving forward.

This is a very easy book to read and understand. He gives a fantastic look at what coaching is and isn't. He's got a great section on helping the coachee see things from a different perspective.What I love about this book (as opposed to secular coaching books) is that he emphatically states on page 22 that 1) it is NOT my responsibility to change others. The Holy Spirit can and will do it on His own - maybe with me but often without me and 2) It is NOT my responsibility to correct everything that I think is out of sync with Scripture, company policy or best practices. The Spirit may choose to use me in this regard, or He may have other means or different timing in mind.The author finishes the paragraph by stating "To someone afflicted with know-it-all-ism these realizations are nothing short of revolutionary."

This book changed the way I coach! I have read other books on coaching but Keith Webb's The COACH Model for Christian Leaders has given me a clear, concise and effective model for my coaching. I have relied heavily on the practical instruction and helpful advice that seems to come through on every page. Key to any coaching conversation is "asking thoughtful questions" and Keith provides dozens of questions that I use in nearly every coaching conversation. I highly recommend purchasing this book and pursuing the live COACH training that Keith Webb's organizations provides. In both the book and the training you will learn to use the COACH model (Connect, Outcome, Awareness, Course, and Highlights) in any coaching conversation. My experience with the COACH model is that it works - and works very well. The COACH Model may not be the only coaching book on my shelf but it is certainly my most used.

The Coach Model is the best training I've found for Life Coaches. Keith takes you through a simple plan that helps a coach identify the clients goal, investigate different perspectives, come up with a plan of action and make steps to change or succeed in life. His stories and examples make it easy to grasp the concepts as well. I was so impressed with this book that I joined his Coaching Mastery program for a week to pursue my ICF certification. Keith and his wife Lori are EXCELLENT teachers and mentors for coaches! I can't say enough good things about their heart for believers of Jesus Christ who want to make an impact for the Kingdom of God with Life Coaching. If you are a life coach, or want to be, you need to get this book!

The best ministry training I've ever experienced has been turned into this short and readable book (and I'm a Bible School graduate who has read a lot of books and works in a Christian training center!).The tools for having deeper and more focused conversations (formal and informal) with discovery of insights and take away application are all in this book!The reader can learn to have sharper meetings, more transformational conversations, and more effective small groups thanks to this highly-practical COACH Model.This book, as well as any other I've read, shows a leader how to bless someone and build them up through the powerful avenues of setting the meeting outcome, asking powerful questions, listening well, and providing accountability for "action steps".It changed the way I do my work. Ive been practing its contents as a full-time coach for over a year now. I think this book is as good as the classic "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie.Read this book and learn to "converse and interact with others as you would like them to converse and interact with you!" And I think you'll see more positive results than ever before.

After reviewing dozens of coaching models, Dr Webb's is near the top of coaching models. I've used it many times.Each letter in "COACH" stands for a different segment of a coaching conversation. It's thorough, effective, and worth trusting the process.I highly recommend this book if you want to get a solid picture of what coaching is all about.

a new look on even your leadership style will come after reading this book. I used to not understand the concept of coaching and used to criticize it because I thought - the only thing they are doing is pastoring. Well this changed my mind on that. The principles in this book are great. As a leader of a starting, growing ministry it was great to know that my wife and I have been doing marriage counseling with many of these methods, now we will implement it into our normal leadership style, as we help those around us discover and fulfill their God given dream.

I was referred to this book by a church planting coach. I started reading it immediately and loved what it said. It seemed to take a lot of pressure off of the discipleship relationships I was already in. It helped me realize I just needed to ask good questions so the Holy Spirit could speak to the people I was coaching and discipling. It also worked really well with my kids and employees. Great book!

The concepts and practical steps espoused in this book will help anyone whoâ€™s just beginning their coaching journey. Itâ€™s insightful, informative, and chock full of easy to understand concepts that will help any new coach build their too kit. I highly recommend it.
