A great relaxing read, with enough mysteries to keep me turning then pages between pauses to reflect on my own relationships. I will recommend this book to my friends.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I think everyone has a story or two to tell about a Mother in Law that they either have or know of. Lucy is married to Ollie and tries so hard to bond with Diana who is Ollie’s mum, but everything she does gives her the impression that she is not good enough or she doesn’t approve of her.Nettie is Diana’s daughter who is married to Patrick and desperate to have a baby, the lengths she will go to are bordering on obsessional.Diana is married to Tom and they are fortunate to have an extremely comfortable life with a successful business, living in a well to do area in a large home, and more money that the average person would ever see in a lifetime. Diana’s life has not always been like this though, as she was cast out from her home as a pregnant teenager. As she did it tough when she was young, she is determined to teach her two children that life wasn’t meant to be easy and don’t come asking for handouts.But then Diana is found dead at home. Was it suicide, or was it murder, and who would do such a thing? You will have to read this book to find out!This book had me turning the pages from start to finish. It was told in alternating time periods from the perspective of Diana, Lucy & Nettie. Sally’s writing keeps getting more intriguing with every book – just when you thought you had it worked out, another twist came, and I had not picked the conclusion at all. 5 very big stars from me.

A thought-provoking, emotionally-charged, insightful look into the breakdown and unravelling of a family.Lucy has always had a complicated relationship with her mother-in-law, Diana. When, Diana is found dead, evidence points to her having taken her own life. But, when the autopsy reveals she was suffocated, every member of Diana's family is a suspect – including Lucy.The mother-in-law/daughter-in-law dynamic between Diana and Lucy held a particular fascination for me. In Lucy’s case a combination of her past emotional turmoil and preconceived notions led her to make a snap judgement from the moment she met Diana. From that point on Lucy interpreted her every interaction with her mother-in-law as negative and pointed. Diana’s seemingly detached, apathetic, and indifferent personality did nothing to alter Lucy’s opinion and was further compounded by the fact that Diana’s husband, Tom, was warm, opening, and generous. In Diana’s POV it quickly became apparent that she’s not as cold and unsympathetic as she seems – rather she’s reserved, doesn’t like to be noticed or complimented, and is embarrassed over Lucy ‘s continuous attempts to try and impress her.Diana’s views on motherhood and her relationship with her adult children (Ollie and Nettie) also made this an interesting read. Her firm belief that adults should stand on their own two feet, and that hardship builds character, caused them to feel hurt and upset. It also made her somewhat of a hypocritical given the size and luxury of her own house, the flash car she drove, her expensive tastes, as well as her summer house at the beach.This was certainly a novel chock full of misunderstanding, jumping to conclusions, jealously and resentment. If only this family had of opened up to one another, and communicated more, things could’ve turned out very differently. I even choked up a couple of times after coming to this realisation, because that's how invested in these characters lives I was. There’s a current trend in domestic noir to make the mother-in-law, nasty, controlling and even psychotic. As much as I enjoy that trope, I liked how these characters weren’t so black-and-white. They were certainly flawed and damaged, but realistic and relatable. Who killed Diana, and why, was an explosive surprise that I didn't see coming. At one point I worried things were heading in a predictable direction, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The last couple of chapters were a little rushed, and over-the-top, but overall a satisfying wrap-up.This was a quick, easy-to-follow read, with short chapters told in dual POV (Lucy and Diana), using the present/past format. My first novel by Sally Hepworth was a thoroughly enjoyable experience that I recommend to all. I predict the mix of drama, contemporary, women's fiction, and crime/mystery will have wide appeal. While Tom would slip Ollie and Nettie money occasionally, Diana refused all financial help. And it wasn’t like she couldn’t afford it.The Mother-in-Law by Aussie author Sally Hepworth is an intense, gritty psychological thriller which I thoroughly enjoyed. Told by Diana and Lucy, and in the “past” and “present day”, it melded well and felt seamless. Plenty of twists, lots of red herrings and the trauma of relationships fed this book well. Highly recommended.

There are not many books that have me enjoying every single moment, but this is one of them. It was so hard having to put this book down and do my housework or go to sleep but I had to force myself to. I was hooked from the beginning and did not want it to end.Sally has written a page turning story, that you are not going to put down so free up your time and don’t start it just before bed.The Mother-in-Law is indeed suspenseful, thought-provoking, perceptive look into the relationships of a family. The story was told from both Lucy and Diana’s points-of-view through past and present events. This book will keep you guessing throughout and then questioning yourself as more is revealed.I do not want to ruin this story for you as you are going to want to enjoy every minute of it for yourself. Sally has created some exceptional characters and the plot is executed to perfection!!! It is not all black and white….I will definitely recommend this one!!! It is a top read of 2019!!!

I was very disappointed in this book. It was simply a book of pictures of VERY complex designs, with no ideas or instructions at all, just pictures of things I could never hope to achieve just by looking at the pictures. Sold it on Ebay to some other sucker, who is probably also disappointed.

I am a pro cake decorator and am always looking for good "inspiration" books. I like a book that I can let a client flip through and talk about what they like and what they don't. I love that the treats presented in the book are from "real" cake decorators like me and not Cake Boss, Ace of Cakes, etc. These are treats anyone would love to have at their event and not over the top, overly sculpted, very spesific cakes.If you are looking for instruction or how-to, this is definitely not the book for you. It is pictures, pictures, pictures, and more pictures. There are no recipes, and there is no instruction. This is an inspiration only book and you can take the ideas and run with them.In short, this is a book that I will keep on my shelf forever, and will be looking for more like it in the future.

Disappointed. No instructions how to create these beautiful masterpieces. No recipes to make them. Just a 1000 pictures to look at and wonder. 😞

This was an interesting journey that surprised me in that, thinking that there might be some tutorials to go along with the photo's, this is instead literally 1000 photographs of cakes and cookies and cupcakes.Within the covers of this paperback book are full-page or half-page or quarter-page photographs of cookies, cakes, and cupcakes that will definitely inspire. Under each photo is the name of the person that created the baked delight. Though some of these credits will be just the names of the decorators, some will have the accompanying website that you can access for further idea's. If you do go to the websites offered, there you will find more photo's along with some beautiful tutorials and/or instruction as well as more information on the decorator. So with a little extra effort, your journey will take you to many parts of the world to learn more on the photo's that piqued your interest. Each photo is full color with wonderful detail.The book is set as such:First there are 5 sections of groupings that showcase each set of pictures and each photo has an accompanying number.Elegant EntertainingBaby and ChildHolidayJust for FunWeddings and EngagementsAfter the above groupings, the next section is "Frosting Recipes" for:Meringue ButtercreamSimple ButtercreamGanancheRoyal Icing2 Recipes for Fondant (as well as amounts needed to cover cakes)GumpasteMarzipanThe next section of the book is labeled "Image Directory" and this is where you look up the number of the photo which is accompanied by a very short description of the baked good, which might include what type of frosting used or cookie cutter, etc.The last section of the book is the "Contributor Directory" which lists each of the bakers and decorators, in alphabetical order, with their websites and contact information.I think that this is a lovely book, especially for beginners, to help your decorating interest but understand that it is not a teaching book. You will have to be more of a detective with this book in that you need to check out the websites offered, which may or may not include specifics, but which will put you in contact with the artists. For those with advanced skills, perhaps you would like to look at other authors/books. Peace.

A feast for your eyes. This is a picture book it shows on a global scale just what can be done with sugar, flavoring & a little water tossed inwith color. The designs run from deceptively simple to quite complex.Check out what the woman in Turkey did with the petit fours -absolutely exquisite !There are no how-to's at the very end there are two recipes - thats it.Normally I wouldn't have paid full price just to look at pictures alonebut in all honesty I bookmarked 70% of the pages and ran out of mylittle tabs long before I was finished cover to cover.Quite a few of the cookies were stamped first then "painted over"with frosting. I don't remember seeing color flow work but it couldbe there. If you don't know the techniques for doing the work thatis done this book will definitely spark your urge to learn how.I highly recommend this book if only to get you motivated to create.The reason I gave it a 4 stars instead of 5 was due to lack of instructionon some of their more intricate patterns. I'd love an encore.

I read the reviews before buying so I knew what to expect. Great photo book full of great ideas and lots of inspiration. One of my favorite things about the photos are that they come from around the world, so it's really interesting to see cake, cookies and cupcakes from other countries such as Mexico, Australia, Italy, South Africa and so on. There were just a few photos that made me think "wow.. how did that make it in".. but all in all - really beautiful work.In the back of the book is an image directory listed by number (each image has a number) that will tell you briefly what the item is made from. For example: "0683 Blue Fish: hand-painted rolled fondant" or "0692 Paisley Party Cake: fondant, piped royal icing, airbrush". There's not a how-to for any of them, however, in the contributor directory, there are website links, by company, that lists all the image numbers contributed by that baker/individual.I would recommend it if you're looking for some creative inspiration.

This book was not what I thought it was. I expected to learn which foods would help heal fatty liver disease and which foods to avoid. It devoted about 5 pages to information about the disease and the rest of the book had recipes for foods only the most devoted birkenstock wearing, drum thumping, chime ringing, crystal rubbing, granola eating crunchy vegan would enjoy. I threw it away.

Recipes are not that good, very few dinners. Waste of my money

Book was pretty banged up but the info’s that’s important. I’d say you get your money’s worth

This is the book I ordered. It arrived in time for class. Book was slightly banged up but as it will only be used once, that's really not much of a problem. Price was a little higher than expected, but better than paying the full price for a one time use book. The book itself is an interesting read, albeit a tad long winded and somewhat repetitive. However, for the most part, I am primarily satisfied with the service and the product in general.

I used it for my online class/ came in good condition.

Just what I needed.

This rental book was in much worse condition than advertised. That, in combination with the ripoff tactics of the rental terms, ensures that I will NEVER rent from Amazon again. I purchase most of my textbooks so I forgot this one was rented. I received a "reminder" that it was overdue AFTER being charged for an extension. Even though I mailed it back prior to the deadline provided by Amazon, I was charged full price for the book and had to contact Amazon for a refund. They provide only media mail postage, which takes a very long time. Luckily, I did keep copies of the postal tracking numbers. The Amazon rep explained that the entire process is automated. Yes, automated to cause the greatest amount of expense and irritation to the customer. They did issue a refund, but had already mailed the books (there were two in this order) back to me. Now I have the added aggravation of another trip to the post office to return the unwanted books for the second time.In summary:Amazon sends a "reminder" after charging you for the rental extension whereas other companies I have rented from send a reminder prior to the due date.They disregard the fact that their policy states that the POSTMARK DATE is the deadline, not the date that they receive it.They ignored the postmark date, which was prior to the shipping deadline, and charged me the full price for two textbooks that I did not want.The email account they use won't accept replies -- you have the additional hassle of having to go to their website and look for contact information to file a complaint.I now have the added cost and time investment of returning books that I do not want.Sorry Amazon, you get an F on this assignment.

This book was in decent condition, worn edges/binding, lots of writing on the inside. It's holding up great though, no real complaints with content. Damage is not so severe as to detriment the book experience.
