good exercises for the ube folks!

Was not the most helpful because my professors teaching style and the principles he wanted you to learn. I also live in Texas, and our laws are a bit different.

Don't mistake this for a textbook. It is primarily a bunch of multiple choice problems with key rules explained. That said, the rules are explained very well. I use it as a supplement to my text book and it really helps solidify my understanding.

Pretty helpful and straightforward, especially if you like practicing with multiple choice questions.

I love Glannon's guides, and this one was just as expected. The only problem is: there need to be more problems for each section (which is the ONLY reason I rated it less than perfect). Other than that, it is phenomenal!

This book is very helpful in the last couple of days leading up to an exam, but it doesn't do much to explain anything you may have not understood. It's best suited to helping you find your weak spots, and then you can look elsewhere (like in the Examples and Explanations series) for a better understanding. I pretty much always get the Glannon Guides to (insert subject here) as a good way to test myself prior to an exam, but it's not going to be a companion to your textbook the way that some others may be. As long as you know what you're using it for, this is a very good book.

This book was heralded on one of my favorite podcasts as the best book about city politics and it did not disappoint. This book beautifully describes the well-oiled components of the Daley machine: the rank-and-file Democratic voters, the recipients of the patronage system, national political leaders, labor unions, the private sector, and most importantly, Boss Daley himself. It should be required reading for all Chicagoans.

I had owned the original publication years back & wanted to replace it. I was disappointed that photos were not included, as I recall were part of my original book..The print is smaller & crammed into fewer pages....The text is the same...readable, informative..Mike Royko was there & captured Daley as a person & a leader of the political machine

An honest and unflinching look at the good, the bad and the ugly of the man who was neither the first Boss nor the last Boss but quite possibly the biggest Boss - but more importantly, what it cost one man, one city and millions of people to take that man to the top and keep him there. Crediting Daley for his ballsiness but never excusing or sparing Daley judgment for his ability to be both casually and deliberately cruel, a short and intense look at American Machine politics at what could be called its most sophisticated - for to call it "at its best" would be giving that form of government more respect than it deserves. Great read.

Good read for anyone that grew up anywhere in Northern or Central Illinois in the late 60s - 70s. Chicago ran the state and Daley was the man.

Born and raised in the Chicago area, I bought and read the first paperback edition when it first came out and loved it. I recently re-purchased to refresh my recollection, and was NOT disappointed. I add my voice to those who know that every word Royko wrote was true. And I have to wonder: what, specifically, did the Honors Government student (below) think was fictionalized? I hope he/she isn't considering a career in government, or he/she is in for a rude awakening upon his/her first encounter with the real world of politics. "Fictionalized?" Pal, it's ALL true!

Just as relevant as when I first read it 40 years ago. It portrays both Mayor Daley and his city with a bit of artistic license, but the net result is pretty accurate.

Interesting/quick read on Mayor Daley and the workings of the Chicago political “machine” that supported his rein.

I would recommend this book if your into politics. This shows you how powerful a party can be when all the gears are well kept.

As an Engineer, I've had the opportunity to travel to many countries in my fifty-year career. Southeast Asea, Northern Europe, and the mid east. As an amateur archeologist it was all exciting to visit places in history. I spent two weeks in Egypt, but at the time I had little interest in the pyramids. I suppose it was due to the fact that so much was written and so much was distorted by Hollywood, and the various religions. I bought Orion Mystery to read on a long weekend but didn't expect to gain much more than I already knew. I couldn't put the book down. Let me repeat that in case you skimmed over it. I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN. I will never look at the sky and at Orion the same again. What a great book to require all high school students to read. it would open their eyes to a myriad of possibilities in any field.

This is a fairly well documented and compelling analysis of the Egyptian pyramids showing a strong connection between their design and specific stars in the heavens. The authors use archeological evidence as well as ancient Egyptian texts and astronomy to prove their point. Well done for a couple of "non- academics"!

Robert Bauval understands Egyptian culture and Egyptian past.He himsef was born in Egypt of an Egyptian mother.He explains very methodically the connection between the pyramids and the stars,especially Orion.The Egyptians believed the soul of the Pharaoh will join Orion.This is probably the beginning of Astrology.Bauval's book was very inspirational to me,and I totally understand his preoccupation with Egypt.I myself am Greek,born in Greece,and when you are born in a place that in essence is a Museum,you become steeped in that culture,it becomes part of your DNA.Greeks and Egyptians have been connected for thousands of years,with Egypt being the mother of three major reliegions: Buddism,Judaism,and Christianity,via Greek philosophy.Bauval's book totally reawakened my interest in Great Egypt.It is a great read.

Very informative. Easy to read and understand. The author provides substantial detail and an other than "junk science" approach towards describing the celestial alignment considerations that went into the design and building of the Pyramids. He goes on to tie-in religious aspects derived from the Pyramid Texts...some of the oldest writings on earth. There are many references and citations provided for further reading. The photos and sketches help the reader untangle text descriptions of angles, alignments etc if needed.

A somewhat dry review of the Egyptian pyramids with new insights into their meaning.an important point is made about the stars being the main characters in the overworld rather than the sun. Earlier interpretations referred back to the Bible and 19th century attitudes about religion. A form of Christianity projected on Egyptians. The pyramids are older than that!

Another great book devoted to unraveling the mysteries of the incredible Egyptian culture. Exquisitely researched by an amateur Egyptologist. That field is so vast and over studied that a break away theory will often be shunned by the "experts". Bauval did his research in his spare time and often while stationed far from Cairo. His willingness to pursue alternatives to accepted beliefs and his patience in testing his theories is remarkable.

The authors wrote a fascinating tale of archeological detective work and serendipitous discoveries. Bauval is an engineer, who, because of his familiarity with laying out buildings, realized the three main pyramids on the Giza Plateau were strangely aligned, and then by happenstance realized that they match the three stars in the Belt of Orion. This discovery lead to more research and the theory that most of the pyramids of Egypt are laid out according to stellar configurations.

Mr. Bauval is a maverick along with many other disciplines challenging the archaeological malpractice that been done by un certificated people who can read hieroglyphics but are not engineers or architects. the book and his you tube presentations are fascinating....

Although Max Reger's 100+ examples all end with some flavor of either a V-I or vii-I chord progression, I would classify more than half of them as transitions from one key to another rather than a transition from one key to another with an exclamatory cadential ending. The book is a usable reference, but not for the beginning student of harmony or music theory. Line and smooth harmonic transition in his examples are frequently sacrificed apparently in the interest of brevity.Despite the negativity of the paragraph above, this little book proved to be a very valuable addition to my reference library, but not in the way I expected it would. I bought the book to use as a quick reference for a modulation while I was composing music, but found that it was far from the cookbook tool I expected. Some of Reger's examples proved to have either a harsh, incomplete, or unconvincing cadential sound, and that spurred me to work to make them less harsh and more complete sounding to the ear with a strong cadential ending.In those efforts I found the real value in Max Reger's work. I reworked 63 of the 100+ examples to make each smoother, more complete, and/or more convincing, and that's where the real learning took place. I now have a "library" of modulations which I can draw upon whenever I need to. I strongly recommend this book for anyone with an interest in music composition or analysis as a study guide to really teaching yourself all about transitions and modulations. However, I make this recommendation with a strong warning that it is not a cookbook for writing music with smooth, flowing transitions.Spend the $7 for the book and then use it to teach yourself modulations and transitions by creating your own set of reference modulations based upon Reger's. Be economical and try to improve on an example with as few additional beats as possible. Unless you are a budding Mozart, that process may take a considerable amount of time, but it will be time well spent.

Great resource for teaching advanced harmony, and for practicing at the piano. That he uses the same chord (a neapolitan) in every transition may mean that there is a bit of a lack of variety, but it's still a great resource.

This book is essentially a cookbook of modulation recipes, which is precisely what I was looking for. It will not suffice alone to achieve an understanding of modulation. But if what you want is an inventory of working modulations from any given key to any other given key, then this is a good choice. Naturally, it doesn't exhaust the possibilities, but it is a valuable exercise all the same. Every beginning student should have a copy, because it really helps to understand modulation to see it in this very bare form. Modulation in the wild, in the hands of composers like Beethoven, Chopin, Schubert, Bach, or others is often too complex for a beginning student to fully grasp. The modulations in Reger's text are largely stripped of ornamentation and the sequence from one key to the next is so brief that the relation between the two keys is foregrounded. I gave this four out of five because it is what I was looking for, but it would be nice to have more footnotes, and a little more content by way of introduction or exposition. Don't let that discourage you. The text is well worth the small price it retails for on Amazon!

Its mostly a reference book for looking at different chords.Not too much learning by comprehension but rather by extension.May find it more useful sometime, tho.

It is what I expected - a thorough catalog of modulations from any one key to another key.

Clear, easy to understand. Can't wait to get started.
