I recently saw an exhibit of the entire collection of Audubon illustrations. That was the motivation to purchase this book. It is complete and printed on nice stock with excellent renditions of the illustrations. My only complaint is that some of the larger plates that are "landscape" are printed straddling the binding. It just ruins the illustration. The drawings that required that should have been printed either on a foldout that preserved the integrity of the print or on the long axis of the book. I would rather turn the book 90 degrees to view the intact illustration than have it broken by the binding. Disappointing, given the price of the book..

Nice book. shipping was great and delivery fast so no quibbles there. Images are not quite as accurate as with other more recent publications such as the Sterling/Sibley effort, (which is gorgeous and a bargain). Most of the images in this book are good to very good, and a few are not so good. Dark colored birds lose some of their relief and detail. It is as if many images were underexposed if they had been photos. However what I do love are the wonderful annotations by Roger Peterson on each of the 435 birds. They were carefully researched and thoughtfully written. Also, unlike some criticisms, I like the ordering of the birds by genus and species. I can see how Audubon treated similar birds. So what the reader is getting with this Abbeville production is a combo art book and ornithological treatment of Audubon's birds, which makes sense given that Mr Peterson was so involved in the production. . The intro written by Mr Peterson is also excellent. One final word of caution the book is huge and heavy, that is good and bad. good because you get large bordering on poster sized images. Bad in that one does not easily handle this thing. Lastly the binding and overall physical construction is outstanding. Comes in a beautiful slip case.

This is just as described. A tiny version of the real book. It's hard cover easily hand held and seems to be sturdy. The picture quality is good but it's difficult to see the fine details. This is no fault of the book but just the nature of such a small book. There is a brief biography in the front but if you need reading glasses this may be difficult as the words are very small. It's a nice book for kids to look at and if you don't want to spend the money on the large version. It can easily be carried around, taken to bed to flip through. However, I think to see the true beauty of the work you may want to buy the large coffee table size. Overall, I'm happy with purchase. It is exactly as expected and explained in description.

This book may be "tiny" but it's telling. John James Audubon's birds are a classic of design, wonderfully realistic, and authentically American. Well worth having or to give as a present.

This "baby elephant folio" is indeed a tiny but complete book of Audubon's "Birds of America." It is a perfect edition to give as a gift to friends and family who are Audubon aficionados. It is great quality and the price can't be beat; I purchased several.I am adding this note: I have been reading through all the reviews and comments to reviews and it is obvious that many of the reviews are referring to a different sized edition of "Audubon's Birds of America" that have been for sale on Amazon. The item I wrote my review for and what is titled for sale as "Audubon's Birds of America" (Tiny Folio) is not the same book most people are reviewing, so it is confusing. The so-called "tiny folio" is not actually the title of the book being sold here. The book, which IS tiny and measures 4.5 x 4.3 x 1.5 inches, is hard covered and contains 435 pages. It is small but fully packed! It is sturdy! The actual title is "The National Audubon Society BABY Elephant Folio Audubon's Birds of America." It doesn't say "tiny" anywhere, only in Amazon's description. This book is not a coffee table book, it isn't for scholars, it isn't so big it won't fit into a bookcase, it sits nicely in the palm of your hand, actually covering just the palm of your hand, and it is beautiful! It is a great gift for someone who has everything, or someone who has shown some interest in Audubon's major work but doesn't want a bigger book, it is great to have in your own bookcase or on the corner of the desk. I think Amazon needs to review its description for this BABY folio and take out the "tiny" from the description and then when they get other editions (which are sure to be larger) to be sure they have the correct description for them. BUYER BEWARE! This book is very small but you will love it!

Book I received came in a beautiful box case.This book makes a great gift, but the person who you are giving it to, needs to be in healthy and strong shape.Book is much too large for normal sized book case.

This review is for the Tiny Folio of "Audubon's Birds of America." It's a gorgeous little book, very thick but very small dimensions - it can fit in the palm of your hand easily! Nonetheless, the images in it are beautiful and the book is very well-made. We are studying Audubon in our homeschool and my young children adore this little book; its tiny size makes it irresistible and they never grow tired of looking at the many images it contains. We will be checking the large folio out from the library, but if you love Audubon's artwork but don't have room for or can't afford the giant edition, this tiny book will delight children and adults alike!

This book highlights and summarizes important concepts, but not in enough detail. I read through most of it and did all of the practice tests it includes, studying intermittently for about 3 weeks, and I received a score of 53; passing but not by much. I found that the questions on the actual test were much more difficult; they were worded differently than the practice tests provided in this book. The actual test also included many theories as well as specific psychologists/theorists. This is the fourth CLEP exam I've taken, and have used this brand of study guides for all and passed all of them (with more than enough points, aside from this one). Overall, it gets the job done if you put in the effort, although I found this particular one to be the least helpful.

This study guide will help you pass the CLEP test but not necessarily ace it. I got a scaled score of 70. I practically memorized the book. In addition, I reviewed a few concepts using a Life Span college textbook I borrowed from a friend, and used Google search to find out info on a few more topics like Gardners personality- career types, Hierarchy of Needs, Big 5 Theory, and Gifted Children studies. I couldn't have studied anymore than I did but there were some questions covering topics I had never heard of. That said, if you study this book well, apply some common sense, and supplement with a few online searches, you should do well on the test, and passing is what counts.

I passed using this book but it doesn't cover a lot of topics.Following are the topics that were on my exam but not in this book -Work of Robert Rosenthal, Tiffany Field, Howard Gardner, Sandra bemBig five theoryMaslow hierarchy of needsStat test

Thought this was a great review study guide! I studied hard for 2.5 weeks prior to taking the Clep exam. I thought it was helpful to have the pretest, and two other tests online to see how you are progressing. My school requires a 50 or higher on the exam to get credit. The mock test I got a 69. It was helpful to the types of questions, however I thought the real clep test was more difficult; ie: more that one answer that could be right and have to choose the most correct answer. On the actual clep I got a 58, so I passed! A little too close for comfort though. This book didn't really cover neuro very well so cross refrance other sources would be a good idea. This book does a good job on theories and development. It's easy to understand. Overall totally worth every penny. This just saved me more than $500 in books and tuition and not to mention my precious time by testing out of this class!!

I studied for five days straight for my CLEP exam and got a 74. I took an intro psyche class three years ago and that's the only other exposure I've had to psychology before this. I had to have a second psychology for a graduate program, I came to this realization fairly late in my application process which is why I decided to CLEP it. I read this book all the way through, made flash cards and looked up some extra details from youtube using the MCAT Kaplan psyche tutorials on the theorists. This book really does cover the meat of the exam. I would also recommend buying the study guide from the CLEP website for the specific test and referencing that against the book. Otherwise this book is a sure bet.

This is arguably the best source to utilize if you need to pass the Clep Human Growth and Development exam. I took the test yesterday and passed with a 62. I would estimate that 85% of the material on the test was covered in this book. The online component was quite helpful, as it mimics the test's conditions and provides you valuable feedback on your strengths and weaknesses. Also, three of the practice test questions were on the actual Clep exam. This book does have its issues, though, in regards to accuracy in at least three instances: (1) Page 33 states, “A correlation coefficient can range in value from 0-1.” In truth, a correlation coefficient ranges from -1 through +1, with zero signifying the two variables have no relationship. (2) Page 45 states, “Because so many vital organs and body parts are developing during the embryo stage or second trimester, harmful agents are especially dangerous during this prenatal period.” The embryo stage is during the first trimester, not the second. (3) These mislabelings of the stages of prenatal development also occur on pages 42-43, as the text refers to the first trimester as the “germinal period,” the second trimester as the “period of the embryo,” and the third trimester as the “period of the fetus.” Both the germinal stage and the embryo stage occur in the first trimester, with the fetus period occurring in all three trimesters. Overall, these three mistakes do not devalue the book as an indispensable study resource. I know of no other text that covers the material as comprehensively and as concisely as Dr. Heindel’s does!

I needed to pass the Human Growth and Development CLEP exam to get preschool teacher certified. I came at the exam with years of professional teaching experience a Masters degree in an unrelated field. The material in this book covers 90% of possible exam material (there were definitely things on the exam that weren't in the book). I spent about 3 weeks reading and reviewing. Because the book is so condensed, every sentence or seemingly irrelevant bit of information could be part of a question!! So really read it and don't skim. The practice tests are SUPER helpful and really prepare you for the actual exam. I got a scaled score of 73 on the practice tests in the book and a 62 on the actual exam. If ever I need to dodge an undergrad course in the future, I will definitely use the REA study guides for CLEP exams!

I only read through this once, taking two practice tests. I made a 59. Be aware, however, that I came into this with prior knowledge from my LPN program and my statistics course. It had been well over a year since I had reviewed any of this information. This book helped me learn new concepts and refresh on what I didn't remember well. The practice tests seemed pretty representative of the information on the actual test. I was scoring around 70 on the practice tests. Hit my recommend!

This small book is entertaining for anyone who is a fan of Schulz and his Peanuts gang. It is especially apt for someone celebrating a birthday they are not particularly embracing, as the humor and accompanying insights from contributors lightens the reality of aging and all that goes with it. Having sent it to several friends, the responses indicate that it is a welcome and appreciated gift.

Who can resist Charlie Brown? I'm not sure I would want to meet anyone who could? I bought this for an elderly friend and you would think she was a little kid again as she read it. I plan to take more friends back to childhood with it too.

I purchased this for my mom for her birthday because she loves Snoopy. She didn't realize they also share the same birthday. We all loved the book. It's short and fun to pass around. It's filled with funny quotes from many people, not just Schulz. This is a great gift for any Peanuts fan or any adult having a birthday. I say adult because kids won't get all of the jokes. I was completely happy with this purchase.

Gave this to a coworker for her birthday. She is constantly saying good grief. She loved the book and of course said good grief when she saw what it was.

Great seller! The book came on time and as described. It is filled with tips on life from the Peanuts gallery and worked as a great table decoration for my son's 1st birthday Charlie Brown party. After the party, we wrote a little birthday message inside for our son to keep. Thank you!

This is a great book if you're interested in how folks did things when they couldn't run down to Home Depot and pick up whatever they need to take care of things around the house or garden. One note for people who enjoy this type of book: this book includes all the content of a similar but more specialized volume "Fences, Gates and Bridges and How to Make Them", by the same publisher. Of course, this book contains much more. So you might want to buy "Homemade Contrivances" and not "Fences, etc" EXCEPT that, at least in my copies, the illustrations in "Fences, etc" were MUCH better than the same illustrations in "Homemade Contrivances.There does not seem to be much if any overlap between "Homemade Contrivances" and another similar book by the same publisher, "Handy Farm Devices and How to Make Them", so to me it is worthwhile to own both. Of course, I buy used when I can get very good quality at a substantial discount.By the way, if you enjoy this type of thing, be sure to check out Eric Sloane's books, including "A Reverence for Wood" and "A Museum of Early American Tools", both of which I own and enjoyed.

If you ever needed a guide book to construct useful items from the past - this is it. Aside from actual items there are bits of advice scattered throughout. For problem solving on a budget, gaining insight from past applications or needing to make what you cannot quickly or easily buy -this book is the one you should have.

I bought this book because I am interested in researching daily life of the period (for historical fiction writing purposes) and can say this book exceeded my expectations. The print is clear and so are the illustrations, which can sometimes be a problem in reprints of old books.I am not mechanically-minded, but I could certainly follow the principles of the engineering required in most of these no-nonsense entries here. The illustrations were also very helpful in this regard.It was an eye-opener to realise how complex the task of farming, gardening and husbandry was back in the late 1800s. If you want to learn about old farming techniques and what it took to be a farmer back then, then you can't do better than this book.If you want to 'return to the land' with your own farm in the modern day, then it's probably better to consult a newer book on the subject.

I purchased the Skyhorse 2007 reprint to replace an original copy from 1899 and couldn't be more pleased with the quality of the reprint.1. The text and images are both very cleanly reproduced to the extent that this reprint is actually easier to read than my original copy (which has become very dark with age).2. This is of course alk. paper, and of a decent thickness, whereas the 1899 copy is printed on acidic, thin, and very low-quality paper (even by 1899 standards).For anyone interested in obtaining a copy of this book, the Skyhorse reprint is the clear choice over and original printing.

Very interesting book but a bit hard to read because the type was very small.

From the description it had when I bought it, I thought this book would have instructions on how to build things for our little homestead. It doesn't really. There are some illustrations from which you can figure out how to do a few items, and someone more mechanically-inclined than myself would definitely have an easier time figuring out how to build each one, but overall it wasn't what I was expecting based on the description. As another reviewer stated, this is more of a historical book than a "how-to" one. I will keep it, because I find it interesting.

This is my 4th GF cookbook written by Nicole. Two years ago, I was an avid baker and had JUST completed a full kitchen renovation to accommodate it, when our world was rocked by the Celiac diagnosis for my (then) 13 year old son. In a blink of an eye, EVERYTHING he loved to eat was GONE. In order to feed him that night, I had to hit up the grocery store and purchase his favorites (IF you could find them) in GF versions. The items were outrageously expensive and therefor, we limited them to being for our son only. But then I am making different meals, worrying about cross contamination, AND HE DIDN'T EVEN LIKE THE FOOD! Within the week, I had found Gluten Free on a Shoestring's blog, and ordered 2 of Nicole's books (Bread, and Quick & Easy). My son was so sad (and so hungry!) that I had no choice but to trust her and jump right in. All of a sudden, I was whipping up a chocolate cake in no time, and no one could tell it was GF. Homemade sandwich bread started showing up again. Donuts were for breakfast. Dinner rolls on holidays. Our traditional cinnamon buns on Christmas morning was still doable. Small Bites is yet another jewel for Nicole's GF crown. Bring on the parties and the appetizers, because there is NOTHING that my son can't have now thanks to the hard work of this dedicated mom/baker/scientist/genius. If you are in need of GF recipes so you or a loved one don't miss out on anything, do what I did. Trust her. Jump in head first. She will not let you fail.

I LOVE this book. Having allergies is always hard but Nicole takes a whole lot of the pain away. This book is great for those days when you need a little something to pack in the kids lunch or you are having a party and needs sbacjs that fit into the gluten world and the gluten free world. I am so excited Nicole finally wore another cookbook! I was diagnosed with Celiac 8 years ago and I have purchased nearly all the GF cookbooks out there. The recipes have yielded mixed results and wasted so much money on pricey ingredients only to have the items mediocre to unedible. Several years ago I was searching for some way to recreate red licorice as gluten free as all commercial red licorice has whe flour as one of the main ingredients. I have always loved/craved this stuff. I was sure I would never eat it again. A google search yielded a recipe by Nichole Hunn and my obsession with Gluten Free on a Shoe String cookbooks. I own all of them and was thrilled to add this to my collection. The instructions are very detailed and straightforward. Not the easiest recipes out there BUT the little extra preparation time pays off in taste every time!!! And they've always worked for me. The couple of times the recipes failed me, it turns out I was to blame. Followed carefully, these recipes work every single time! The results are so good I have been able to transition the rest of my family (including a picky teenager) to solely gluten free. And when I entertain I don't even have to divulge that the food is gluten free as no one can tell anyway. This author's books are a MUST for anyone who needs to avoid wheat and loves good, delicious food.

Problem solving isn't a talent. It's a habit. By developing the right skills and adopting the right attitude, anyone can become a problems solving kid.2. Problem solving is a process that can be broken down into four steps: (a) understand the current situation; (b) identify the root cause of the problem; (c) develop an effective action plan; and (d) execute until the problem is solved. making modifications as necessary.3. You have to keep asking the "why" and "how" to develop a custom made action plane.4. On problem solving design plan, if you start collecting and analysing data without first clarifying the question you are trying to answer, you're probably doing yourself more harm than good, and realise later that most of the research was a waste of time. To avoid this problem, you should develop a problem-solving design plan before you start chasing after information. In the design plan, you clarify the issues you are trying to solve, state your current hypotheses and rationale, and list the analyses, actions, and information required to prove or disprove those hypotheses, drastically increase your problem-solving productivity. Additionally, putting your plan down on paper will not only clarify your thoughts. If you are working in a group, this plan will also help your team to focus on what needs to be done and provide the jumping-off point for your group brainstorming. There are 2 forms of hypothesis, an argument structure and grouping structure. Unlike the grouping structure, with an argument structure, if one of the statements is untrue, the main conclusion is automatically false.8. Impact = plan effectiveness x quality of execution9. Once you have a concrete plan of action to achieve your goal, don't forget to create a concrete schedule. Write down everything you are going to do, and when you plan to do it.10. We tend to be swayed by our first impressions. If we first think something is attractive, we tend to try to collect evidence that supports that idea. On the other hand, if we think something is unattractive, we tend to highlight only its negative points. It is critical to avoid this tendency in order to make a sound decision.11. I'm a software engineer, so I spend most of my days solving problems. I was looking for something to help me codify an abstract process for what I already do and show me some useful techniques, so that I could be not just a more effective software engineer, but also a more effective problem-solver in other areas of life. At first, this book looked to offer what I was wanting. In the 1st section, it laid out a 4-step problem-solving process and presented the Logic Tree technique, and at the end of the section the author states that throughout the rest of the book, "we'll see how the problem-solving approach and tools are used." Sounds great, let's take that 4-step process you just showed me and apply it to new situations.Unfortunately, this is not how the rest of the book unfolds. He never presented the same process again. Instead, in the 2nd section, he gives us a slightly different process for problem-solving. This new process is 3-steps, with the first step simply being steps 1 and 2 of the first process put together... Not a big change, but it doesn't make sense to me why he did it. Because of this alteration, as the author went into more detail of this new process and described sub-steps in the process, I felt confused as to which high-order steps the sub-steps referred to and where we were in the process. The author also gives an example in this chapter where someone wants to go visit Grandma on the Friday after Thanksgiving, but is having to deal with traffic. I thought the author really struggled to map the situation to the new process he was using at the time, so I spent a lot of energy trying to articulate it for him, so that I could make sense of it.The 3rd section was about goal-setting, and again the author presented a new process that was again similar to the process outlined in the 1st section, but not quite the same. Why not just have 1 process that works for all examples, or unique 3 processes that are, therefore, easier to distinguish?This section has other problems, including that the main character jumps into trying to achieve his goal of "becoming a Hollywood CGI Director" without every really questioning whether a) getting a new computer and learning how to create CGI is the best way to achieve his goal, or b) examining what it's actually like to be a Hollywood CGI Director. How many times in life have we made up a goal for ourselves without ever really thinking about it, and then at some point along the way realizing that it was nothing like what we imagined for one reason or another. *That's* the kind of thinking you need to have when you're young - how to not waste years of your life chasing something you arbitrarily decided and that you may end up hating.Another problem of the 3rd section is that he uses a logic tree as a means to brainstorm ideas. IMO, logic and idea-generation don't go well together, as logic tends to be too accepting of presuppositions and narrows one's thinking instead of broadening it to various possibilities. So, I think a creative technique would have been more helpful here.The 4th and final section was on decision-making. It was also the most informal, as there was no process, just a character simply reasoning through a life-decision. I thought it did a good job showing how to turn a potentially big, intimidating decision into something manageable by thinking critically, breaking down the related factors, and seeking information from experts. I enjoyed this section the most.In summary, I was anticipating a theoretical explanation followed by 3 applications of the theory, and what I got was different from that, so I felt frustrated throughout most of the book as my expectations were subverted in increasing magnitude. I think the book could be improved by either removing some of the step-by-step details or by being more careful with the correspondence between the initial process to the example cases. Regardless, I expect the techniques to be somewhat useful, and I will probably be able to mold the 3 processes in the book with my own way of doing things.

This is an excellent book for introducing children to powerful methods and rules of problem solving. The book consists mainly of several engaging fictional tales that are well-written and could draw the attention of children or teenagers. Even for adults, it is useful to be aware of these systematic methods. I often see that problem-solving takes careful analysis and planning, skill and knowledge, innovation and creativity, grit and persistence. Where systematic methods can be particularly helpful is in analysis and planning. This book helps people take a first and important step toward becoming proficient problem-solvers. I highly recommend this book for children, and it may be helpful for older folk. It is certainly entertaining to read, while being informative.

The content and production are what you expect from Paizo. I gave it three stars because the book is half the size of the Pathfinder Bestiaries, but still around the $40 price point. Buy the PDF for $10 at Paizo’s website and spend a few more bucks of printing and binding.

First off, this book is beautifully rendered like all Starfinder books. The information is well laid out, and every monster listed,as well as the other information is well laid out. My biggest problem with this book is how short it is, it doesn't feel like a complete product with only 60 monsters listed. Also, some of the "playable" races are pretty laughable. If you make a giant floating brain playable, why not make the sentient robots playable too, or the mountain eel for that matter? The D&D 5e monster manual was easily twice as thick and didn't contain the fluff. Pathfinder has such a rich assortment of monsters, Paizo could have easily taking the most commonly known ones (and many lesser known ones) and made space versions of them too (Space cyborg vampires anyone?) and this book would have felt bulky enough for the price. As it is, it feels a little overpriced for what you get.

This is by the same people that make the Pathfinder Role-Playing game. This is a bestiary of sorts. In Pathfinder a bestiary is $5 more, but gives you twice the page count. I don't mean there are half the number of monsters, I mean the book is half the size, yet almost the same price.The races inside weren't all that inspiring. I didn't look at any of them and thing "can't wait to play that". Any of the ones that were mildly interesting were given horrible characteristic bonuses or penalties. Overall a very disappointing book.

What little information the Alien Archive had was very good but for most people the PDF will suffice. One other user accurately describes this book as having half the content, same cost. Not having summoner or druid type classes will thin out a bestiary book for understandable reasons, but I had expected more deep space horrors and fewer playable races. The playable species in the Alien Archive are neat but not as balanced or interesting as the Core Rulebook species. Paizo needs to up it's game a bit for the next Alien Archive.On the upside I think the rules for creating your own monsters is easier than Pathfinder. With decades of excellent horror and sci-fi fiction in our culture, I hope to see lots of homebrew and pop-culture monsters emerge soon. I've already created "Critters" from the old 80s movies.

A new entry in the starfinder system, the Alien Archive is the equivalent to the bestiary of the pathfinder world. However is should be noted that the two are in no way equal. I have high standards for Piazo, they do solid work but this feels like a rush job cash grab. Compare the two systems (Pathfinder and Starfinder) in terms of content. Both books came out around August and had a monster book follow within about 2 months of the core release. Pathfinder had a massive 328 page monster manual and cost the same as the Starfinder Alien manual, which only boasts half the page length and less then half the monsters.The book is only 154 pages long; of those pages only 54 contain aliens and each one gets 2 pages. The book offers information about how to create your own monsters, and how each creature would encounter the party. Normally this would be a nice but compared to previous Piazo releases... Its sad. They reprinted a few monsters from the initial adventure path; and to top it off converted Pathfinder monsters to Starfinder aliens, such as the drow and space goblins. Since you have the rules for creating and converting monsters from previous games at your fingertips, why would the writers not create new aliens for us to encounter?The 2 stars is from the fact that the book is nice looking. The art work is good and the new aliens are interesting to read about. I wish I would've got the pdf instead. I would have been a lot less disappointing.

I had seen the reviews and I rolled the dice. Well it was a natural fail. The printing skipped the races chapter, and rebound a part of the classes chapter. I sold it aftermarket with printing fully disclosed. The second one I ordered was perfectly fine! So check for redundancies!

It's a bit short (to be expected since a part two releases soon or just did) but it's a wonderful book with very detailed information and paintings. Recommended for RPG fans and even sci-fi fans who grew up reading books like from the Terran Trade Authority series. Some of the monster descriptions have TTA vibes, tbh. A science fiction author could use this to spark some creativity. Who wouldn't want to read a story about a swarm of creatures that resemble Deh-Nolos?
